I'am looking on making whirleygig hubs 1/2x 1/2x 1 3/4". does anyone know of a site that shows you how. I haven't found any info on this, all I see is the round ones, which I don't need. Thanks  for any help.  edward

Just to be clear, you are asking about a propeller hub, correct?

As shown in Ike's excellent drawing, typically hubs are round or square, not retangular. None the less, why not make the part?

It is a propeller Hub that holds the blades, just like the one that is pictured above, but not big, the one I'am looking for is 1/2 x1/2x 1 3/4" its for mini wirligigs.  edward

I think it depends on how you're doing your blades.  If the blade itself goes into the hub, I'm thinking a simple miter box would do the trick.  Put the hub on end and use the 45 degree slot and cut the slot with a handsaw.  If the blades are attached to a dowel, you can drill the holes in the side then simply rotate the dowel so the blades are pointing in the right direction.

This video might help:

Edward, just cut your hubs to the required length, drill a hole of the required size in the middle, then cut a 45 degree slot the width of your blade material in each end. If your hub is 1.5" long, then I would cut the slots .5" deep on each end.

I made a small jig to hold the square stock at a 45 degree angle rather than tilting the table.
