Kevin can scroll straight down the line while he sleeps.

Well Robb, you can't blame the saw, you have a good one.

A lot of staying 'on the line' depends on a number of factors.

The blade you use and the speed you cut. Also the

thickness of the wood and the wood hardness.

The smaller the blade, the more likely to stray.

Welcome,

Robb

Welcome to the village and your first post, you'll find the trick is not so much to stay on the line just to keep the line smooth and the corners curved on that it not to thin that it breaks away. It's only you that notice your mistakes :D

Feel free to ask the questions there are loads of helpful people from around the world it doesn't get any better. Stay safe and God bless. Roly

WELCOME ROBB I have been scrolling for over 20 years and some day's I  can't keep on the line. Straight lines are easy after a couple of weeks it's the curved lines that are hard to correct Don't worry about making fire wood we all do hat . Most mistakes are noticed by you only

Welcome to The Village.  I know you will enjoy scrolling and you will find that if you follow the hints here and start with the easy things first, you will find that things will quickly work out for you. I would suggest that you stay away from the really delicate fret work, at the beginning and push you skills a little at a time. the thinner the wood you use the more difficult it is to cut, at least for me. and the blades you use are very important for your success. If you are using blades you buy at the box stores, try something different. You can find several sources for blades on line and there are some you can buy from listed here on The  Village. If you have a problem finding them, just ask.  Suggestion : don't use a blade for too long, they will easily stray from your intended line when they are dull. A rule of thumb is a blades life is somewhere around a half hour. Don't push them too hard. I, personally like the double tooth blades because they are not as aggressive and for me, much more manageable. Eventually you will  find the perfect blade for you. There are many choices and one blade is not the choice of everyone. Good luck, Come back often, Explore our sight. make a lot of sawdust and do not get discouraged.

Oh yes the days that the blade has a mind of its own. I remember those days well. I have been scrolling for 15 to 20 years (I kind of lose track or just don’t want to count) and I still think that little blade is smarter than I am at times.

Keep working with it and soon you will be flowing around the pattern with ease. It isn’t about following the line perfectly. It is really about enjoying the saw time and making something by hand that you can be proud of. ;) ;)

Welcome to the village and come back often. :D
