dansnow Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 Finished the walking dragon this morning! Tried to mess it up putting the last leg pin in, but sorted things out and the little critter is done. Back legs, tail, wings and jaws move when it's pulled. Thanks for looking. bobscroll, Paul Brown and lawson56 3 Quote
Fish Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 Nice work. For a child? Grandchild? They will love it. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Travis Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 That's beautiful. Where can I buy the pattern? Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 Great job!!!!! Some kid is going to have so much fun they will wear the finish off the wheels. Rob Roy 1 Quote
dansnow Posted June 23, 2014 Author Report Posted June 23, 2014 Travis the plans were published in the April 2000 issue of Woodworkers Journal. The designer is John Hutchinson. I wouldn't recommend it for kids under maybe 5, or for kids that are well past the pick it up and throw it stage since the wing axle pins would be a bit vulnerable. Travis 1 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 Very very nicely done. There is going to be a very happy kid when they get that. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW Quote
Fay Prozora Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 That would be a nice piece just for a display. If children are rough with things it looks like one that can get broken easy and wood is not always easy to fix. It's beautiful.. Fay Quote
dansnow Posted June 23, 2014 Author Report Posted June 23, 2014 The first one I made went to a young mother who was decorating a nursery for the baby she was expecting in a couple months. I agree that this one is more for looking. I have a cricket, a grasshopper, a dachshund and a couple other pull toys that are much more durable for the youngens. Quote
Travis Posted June 23, 2014 Report Posted June 23, 2014 I wouldn't recommend it for kids under maybe 5... Ha! I want it for me! ...or for kids that are well past the pick it up and throw it stage since the wing axle pins would be a bit vulnerable. Well, I'm not sure if I'm past that stage yet. wombatie and Wilson's Woodworking 2 Quote
amazingkevin Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Very intriguing for little learning minds.I remember similar toys i played that are action toys when pulled.I was mesmerized for hours analyzing just when and how everything worked when pulled! Very good job here! Quote

Travis Posted June 25, 2014 Report Posted June 25, 2014 So I'm tracking this pattern down because I really want to make one for myself. It turns out that Woodworker's Journal has all of the magazines from the year 2000 on CD for only $4.99! They have other collections for the same price too. Might want to check it out if you're interested. http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/Main/Store/2000-Annual-Collection-606.aspx I think this is a limited time offer. I know I'm buying the CD just for that pattern. Quote
