penquin
Saw someone doing something like this and wanted to take a shot at it. Finally found a place to buy bamboo flats and tried it. The bamboo is 2 inch wide and they sell it in lengths 8 feet long. I glued it to 1/8 luan plywood and weight it down since they are not really flat but close and you mostly glue the edges of the strips. Then put the pattern on and cut away. Gave it a spray of Krylon clear gloss and that was it.If anyone in the US is interested in doing this look for Cane or Bamboo supply places. I dealt with:Frank's Cane & Rush supply7252 Heil AveHuntington Beach CA 92647714-843-5645www.frankSupply.comThey cost 7.60 for a 8 foot strip. I would think they could cut it down and pack it and ship for extra. Not as reasonable as plywood but I like the effect.jimpenquin Pat W., Wilson's Woodworking and amazingkevin

Wilson's Woodworking
I Really like it!!!! I would have never thought of doing that with the bamboo. There were some patterns of geisha girls and samurai warriors that would be really cool to cut using that effect. I saw some old bamboo window blinds in Goodwill a while back that would have worked perfect for that. Now I wish I would have picked them up for a buck apiece.
