herrwood
Not new to wood working but not a scroll sawer. Had this older roybi on a shelf for about 10 years, my son use to use it. I cleaned it and will put it to use but I am not the artistic type so maybe a pumpkin I can paint orange or a something else simple. amazingkevin and Stogies

heppnerguy
Welcome to The Village, Take a look through the pattern library and find a simple pattern you like. Take your time cutting it. the biggest help you are going to find is in the blades you use. You will understand the difference in the blades you will find in the building supply houses and the ones found on line. You saw uses pinned blades and I also started with a Ryobe and it worked OK for about one year before I started buying replacement parts for it. fortunately the parts are not expensive for them. I did find that I was able to use non pinned blades in it, which surprised me and that helped some. Woodcrafters carries scrollsaw blades that will work for you saw. Come back often. Ask questions. have fun making sawdust and don't get discouraged because you will enjoy scrolling in a short time.. there are also a lot of simple and free patterns at www.scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com you might find something there too. come back often and discover the fun and helpful people here. herrwood
Thanks for the welcomes , I have built the standard stuff most of us build, bookcases, tables shelves, and assorted small boxes and planters , however I tend to shy away from crafts and things that take some artistic talent but the saw was sitting there and looked lonely so I will take a shot at some simple projects . I started looking at the patterns on this site there are plenty to choose from. One complaint is I wish this forum had a spell checker !! Wilson's Woodworking
I usually type it out in Microsoft Word and then cut and copy it into the reply area. I am the world’s worst speller.

spirithorse
Hi, Ed, Hope to see some pics when you get the chance. One thing that a few people have mentioned previously is that you should keep some pics of what you cut with dates so you can check back later and see how much you have improved as you got more experience. Glad you found the site and hope you enjoy the new hobby. God Bless! Spirithorse
