Hello from Norma in White City OR.  I am a retired person who hates to sit(or stand) and do nothing.

When I first moved in here 11 years ago, I worked a lot in getting lawns and gardens, raised flower beds, fences and gates, etc, established.

About 3 1/2 (or so) years ago, I mentioned to my brother - LA CA - that I wanted to do some scroll sawing.  Well, he bought me one.  Nice guy, my brother.  Anyway, as usual one thing lead to another and I acqired a disc sander, an air cleaner and more goodies.   I was doing all this in my "craft room", in the house.  Needless to say, I ran out of room with sewing machine, computer desk and all in the same room.  A friend, down the street is a woodworker and started cutting pieces of wood, helped me buy my first board of maple and just essentially get me started.  He made a suggestion that I think he regrets to this day as to why I didn't take my shed and make it a wood shop.    Well, I'll give you three guess as to what happened next........but the first two don't count.

I lined the walls with insulation - ceiling, too, then put mdf up over that, put in two windows, painted the floor and he put in the electric, put the mdf ceiling up and the ends of the walls.  Yes, he is still

my friend (I think) cutting my wood for me (and do I appreciate it), his wife and I are good friends and I am proceeding to learn on each piece I do.  After about 3 years, I felt confidant enough to show people what I am doing, and would you believe it?  I have sold a few pieces.  Surprised - and pleased - my socks off!!!!

Any way, making boxes and even have "designed" a few patterns myself.  Just came in from getting set up to do 2 more 5" boxes, some smaller boxes and a pair of owl trivets that are sold.

I don't know of anyone in my area that scroll saws and if they are out there, they are pretty closed mouthed about it.

So happy to find this web site and "talk" to a few people having the same interest.

Norma

Hello Norma, A big huge WELCOME to the Mad House. I'm (Rob) Roy, from Scotland. You will probably realise in a few days, or even a few seconds, that the lunatics run the asylum here, with the exception of Travis and Clayton they are the head haunchos.

You will wonder what you have let yourself in for here, well I'l tell you. Magic pattern makers, Amazing Kevin, you'll find out soon why he's called Amazing. We also have PHANTOMS(watch out for him), and I have a funny feeling the Rob referred to is me. We have wonderful magic scrollers too, not to mention wood turners, if it's wood it's in here, or even PENS. We have breakfast every day which Larry usually makes. Is there any chance you could give him some tips so we can have a DECENT breakfast. Need to be careful as Amazing Kevin is a funny eater  Look out for Keith too,he likes nothing better than taking the Mickey. I could go on and on, but I wont, too many super folks to mention but they know who they are and so will you very soon. There are occasions when we can be serious too, you know, but that usually only happens when the moon turns BLUE. So come on in and ENJOY yourself. Life is too short to be serious

Rob Roy.
