heppnerguy
Well I almost had my Eiffel Tower finshed when I realized I had really screwed it up and now I have to cut the entire thing all over again. Here is a photo of my wasted efforts. It was a lot of work to throw away but things do not always go the way you would like them to. I started cutting a replacement a couple of days ago. amazingkevin
I messed mine up to , but it was the printers fault mostly.I fixed it all floating in things with a lot of glue.So good that the first person that seen it fell in love with it.They worked for effel cleaning company and he wanted badly to buy it for his boss. Was he shocked when i gave it to him free. What you don't know never hurts you.The hours and hours i spent on it just cutting and then the hours and hours i spent fixing it made my day to see someone drooling to own it. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face to get the abortion out of my house. It really looked great sprayed gold .The more i did to it the better it looked ,BUT I KNEW BETTER,LOL I enjoyed every bit of working on it .But was more than happy to see the reminder leave my memory ,lol
spirithorse
What a pity! Seems like there must be some solution other than starting over. Good luck and God Bless! Spirithorse
heppnerguy
No actually it doesn't look to bad from across the room. What happened was the pattern was not very usable because all the angled lines were a short series of short straight lines and they printed off really poorly on top of that. I had to remake the entire pattern and it has tabs that help to line it all up and I did not like the end grains showing so I divided the distance in half and butt joined them. Big mistake. I ended up not getting the pieces square and I can not live with that. There really is no way i could find to cut the pieces free so, I am cutting them out all over again. if i don't like it, I certainly am not going to display it. That's my story, and I'm stickin to it Dick heppnerguy Wilson's Woodworking and sawdust junkie

LarryEA
Oh Man, that's terrible and frustrating... but the world didn't end and the scroll saw still works. Praise God. That is great you are starting it again. Thumbs up on your determination !!!!!!!!!!!!
edward
All that work that was put into it, surely there must be something that could be done, If it were me I would really try and salvage it somehow. edward
gator
never done this one either or you talking about the compound angles going up the sides . i have thought how i would do this before .i think i would cut all exteriour cuts and dry fit before cutting any interiour parts, is that clear as mud, still looks beautful
Wilson's Woodworking
I don't usually paint projects but in this case I think I would do as Kevin did and glue it together and give it a few coats of gold paint. It is just too beautiful to throw away.

Bendita
HMMMM Been there done that, Dick I want you to know that I'm extremely proud of you and your decision to redo it. I know a good scroller is the one that hides his mistakes the best, but deep down inside we know it just wasn't right. We are our own worst critics and that is worth something. Good lord knows I've made plenty mistakes but never parted with a badly done piece, my motto is mistakes don't leave my house, except for one of my kids but that's another story. Hang in there Dick its not a race, do it right and make yourself proud and everyone around you. .../Hans Rob Roy, bobscroll and LarryEA
Phantom Scroller
Dick couldn't you put a tapered piece underneath to straighten it up and hide the join with a small strip of veneer around it. just a thought. heppnerguy
Roly, I have screwed up every part of it. i really am Ok with giving it another try. I have had several people ask for it but like Hans said, If I know it is not right, it still is my work that someone would be looking at. Even though I am not the best scroller going, I do still have pride in my work. I try to do what my skills and lack of skill allow me to do or not do. I told my granddaughter that if she made a blouse for someone and one arm was lower than the other one, you would not want to give it to the one you made it for or to anyone else either, and the same goes for my screwed up tower. Fish
I'm sure the next one will be right. My dad gave me that pattern he bought somewhere but I've never tried it yet.
wombatie
I admire you Dick. You knew it was wrong and you started again straight away. If you had left it say a week you may not have started again. When a very intricate pattern I was cutting broke, I put it in my, "I stuffed up" pile, went into the garden kicked a couple of things around, then went back and started again. Lucky2
Dick, I understand completely, and admire why you made the decision you did. I am the same way, if it's not perfect, or, good enough for me, then it's not good enough for anyone else. Just so you know, I've been known to be just a bit fussy. Plus, if it has my name on it, it has to be just so, or, it will not leave the workshop. Good luck with your next try. Len
ike
Dick I feel for you. We have all made firewood one time or the other, and me more than most. I would have thrown it up against the wall and said a couple of bad words and had to go to Church Sunday and pray for r my self. I do go to Church every Sunday but don't have to pray for my self very often. I admire your self control. heppnerguy
When I do get it finished I hope I will be a 'happy camper'. I have not been able to work on it since I posted the photos because of commissioned work I had to get out first. But I am caught up on that now so many tomorrow I can tackle the tower again. Thanks for all the nice comments and helpful ideas. Dick heppnerguy
