Fish Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 These are the first bowels I have tried. You definitely learn as you go. Any input on working with these is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Great looking bowls, especially for your first couple. I am sure that you found out by now that taking your time and being accurate in both the angle you are cutting and following the pattern help keep the sanding down. Other than that have fun. Making bowls is a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing these with us, looking forward to seeing your next ones. DW Fish 1 Quote

Fish Posted August 15, 2014 Author Report Posted August 15, 2014 Thanks. Have any of you used baby oil ( mineral oil ). For the finish instead of a food grade mineral oil? Positives or negatives to it? Food grade mineral oil is expensive. Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Thanks. Have any of you used baby oil ( mineral oil ). For the finish instead of a food grade mineral oil? Positives or negatives to it? Food grade mineral oil is expensive. Yes I have and while it does do the job the finish is rather blah. Just about any modern finish as long as it is cured completely is human safe. You might want to look up the mineral oil + bees wax finish. It does a great job and can be shined decently. DW Quote
Phantom Scroller Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Yep your right DW I make my own from Beeswax and baby oil it smells lovely covers well and is very good for my soft hands. lol Quote
Bendita Posted August 16, 2014 Report Posted August 16, 2014 My favorite has always been Danish oil its a bit more expensive but seems to last longer I'm not sure if Watkins makes it anymore. Quote
