two saws
I have been given a bunch of short pieces of teak wood (about 1/2 in. to 3/4 in.thick X one and half to 2 in.wide x 3in. long. My problem is I do not have a band saw to cut them thinner. I have tried it with the scroll saw and a #12 blade but still slow and not very stright. Any body know how I would make a jig to use with a table saw? I havent been able to come up with any thing that would be safe. Any ideas? Travis
With such small pieces, I'm not sure how safely you can cut them. Table saw is really meant for larger stock. I think the blade will pinch the wood too much and kick back, mostly because it's too hard to control the wood as you push it through the blade. Plus, the kerf of your table saw blade will shave off 1/8", which is a conciderable amount with 1/2" board. I'd see if you know anybody who has a bandsaw to cut it for you, or find a project that works well with 1/2" and 3/4". Wish I could offer advice, but the idea of cutting those small pieces with the table saw sketches me out.
greasemonkeyredneck
From my own personal experiance, resawing pieces that small usually winds up being an accident waiting to happen. For small pieces, I just plane them down to whatever thickness I need. Yes, this wastes wood, but I'd rather waste wood than a finger or something. I may need that later. two saws
Thanks for all of the input and concerns for safety which was on my mind when I ask the question.I have a friend across the alley that does cabnet work when he's not working at Lowes.I might see if I can get him to slice a few of these blocks with his band saw or possably use his planer. I want to use the peices for inlays on boxes and crosses,I know there has to be a use for them! Again thanks for the input and rest asured safty first!!
