Travis Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I bought a new toy last night. I'm starting to manufacture a few games for my buddy's store and I needed a stationary belt sander. So I dipped into my lathe fund ( ) and got this; a Ridgid Oscillating Spindle/Belt Sander. You can find them at Home Depot for $199. It doubles both as a oscillating belt sander and a spindle sander. The change-over is really quick and easy. So far I'm pretty happy with it. I'm especially excited to use it on scroll saw projects (toys, puzzles, candle holders, etc), but I think it will work well for all kinds of woodworking. I've read reviews from other woodworkers and many really like the machine. I'm going to give 'er a workout this weekend and I'll do a full review later. Until then, you can check out the details here. Quote
grampa Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Very nice ..........Hey travis if I ship my projects over to your side of the pond, you can sand em and ship them back.... Quote
Vector01 Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 That's Kool But you broke the cardinal rule of tool buying Never admit you bought it! "You won it in a raffle." Quote
wombatie Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Boys and their toys. LOL So how many times have you dipped into your lathe fund now???? Have fun. Marg Quote
Barry5180 Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Nice toy Travis. Congrats on the new purchase. Barry Quote
Hosie Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Hey Travis nice toy.Tha willalso come in handy if you do some Intarsia.because if two adjoining pieces don't fit tight you can trim them with that because the spindle sander will sand at a true 90degrees which is very important. Quote
britetomro Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Travis, Nice new addition to the workshop. I have had one of these units for about 4 years. Unless changes have been made to the newer models, a word of advice. Do not over tighten the table adjustment knobs on each side. On mine, it caused stress cracks in the housing. Did not cause a problem with the operation of the machine or the leveling of the table, however I did not like it when I saw the small cracks. The machine has worked well for me. Found the Home Depot in my area had a sale on replacement tubes for the spindle and I purchased 6 packages of the sanding tubes for $5.00 each. I do not think that I will ever use them all. Again, congrats. Quote
Christina Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Congrats on the new toy Travis! That's one of the things on my, way to long, wish list lol. Have fun! Christina Quote

Xray Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Good move, a man simply cannot have enough tools. Watch the internal dust buildup on this, I periodically take mine outside and blow its innards out, lest the accumulation fouls the motor. Quote
Eagledrum70 Posted January 19, 2011 Report Posted January 19, 2011 Very nice Travis I need one of myself congrats on the new toy. Eagledrum70 Quote
