Roly good job for the first one.  One of the things you might try is a spiral blade.  I have found at least at first they cut straighter and this can make cutting these easier.  I generally use a #9 Ultra reverse now when cutting these.  A new sharp blade and taking your time you will have straighter cutting.  It takes practice to cut straight in super thick stock.

Hardness of the wood, blade selection and sharpness make a difference.  

 

But of course you know this.

I must admit I rushed it a bit with a 5 reverse tooth and it wavered a bit but hey live and learn and this wood was hard. I'll have to buy some 9's as I'm running low on blades anyway. Thanks for the input and help DW and everyone else for feedback. Roly
