dansnow Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 Had an interesting experience yesterday at our two day craft faire. It was very windy yesterday, 20mph constant with gusts to 30mph. We were mostly protected but still had a couple issues. One was a Volker designed lichterbogen that was blown to the ground. When I picked it up I noticed is was slightly cracked on one corner. It was minuscule, and you had to look closely to see it, but I knew it was there. I laid it down on a shelf and figured it was a goner, as I wasn't sure how I could repair it with it being obvious. About an hour later and older Lady came by our booth, and expressed an interest in the lichterbogen. I explained that it had been damaged and showwed her where. I explained that I had been selling it for $75 but if she wanted it as is, I would take a third off. She didn't hesitate and purchased it. Then, since she had used a card, she gave us a positive feed back on our Square account! As a rule I don't like to sell something that was damaged, even repaired, because I know it's damaged. But she really wanted it and wasn't bothered by the crack at all. Has anyone else had an experience like this? keefie, Multifasited and Rob Roy 3 Quote
amazingkevin Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 A beautiful piece like that ha! Lightning could have hit it and I would fall head over heels to own it! Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! Rob Roy and keefie 2 Quote
browders Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 I appreciate your desire to put only your best work out there. That said, the piece was amazing and made someone very happy. By discounting it, you can make yourself feel and little better, make the lady feel as though she got a great deal, and the potential goodwill is limitless. ChelCass Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 When something is damages like that and someone wants to buy it by all means sell it to them. What you did was perfect. You were honest and you gave her a more then fair price. Good Job! Quote
ike Posted October 23, 2014 Report Posted October 23, 2014 I have never sold any damaged goods, but in that case you did right I would have probably offered it at 50% off but what you offered was still ok she was happy and that is what matters. you gave her a good deal and you should not feel guilty about it. DWSUDEKUM Posted October 24, 2014 Report Posted October 24, 2014 I actually have had a similar experience. I have had things get blown off the display, dropped or damaged in transit to the show. Like you I have placed it aside and have had folks express interest in the damaged item despite the damage. Reducing the price is a very good idea as well as making sure that the customer is aware of the damage and that they are good with it. Great job with customer relations! DW Quote
Bill H Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 I sure have! People love it when they get a "deal". I just make sure that they know what and where the flaw is. But I only sell the stuff that have cosmetic flaws. If it is anything serious it goes in the scrap pile. Quote
