Kepy
For several years I have listened to scrollers brag on foot pedals. Since I can't sit with my feet down, I didn't think they would be for me. Had a brainstorm the other day so bought a foot pedal and fastened it to the side of scroll stand. Now it is a knee pedal rather than a foot pedal. Works great. Wilson's Woodworking, Rob Roy, jellis and 5 others

ike
I just gave in after a lot of years. I was in woodcrafter store in try county and they had one for $23 so I bought it and it is great Why I didn't do it a long time ago I don't know. Scrappile
I can sit at my scroll saw, and I have a foot pedal. I love it, except sometimes I put my foot on the foot pedal when I don't intend to. I have not hurt anything yet, but it can scare the begezzez out of me. I have wondered if a knee pedal might not be better. I may just try that one of these days. browders
browders
It's all about adapting to circumstances. Foot pedals are great, but knee pedals are equally so.
heppnerguy
when I bought my new saw at the estate sale there was a brand new footpedal sitting in the shop area so I decided, "what the heck, even though I am really slow to adapt to suggestions on many things, I decided that for $2, if I ever did decide to try one, I know have one. It was brand new and never appeared to ever be used as it still the packaging things on it. He ended up not even charging me for the item, so it was free to me Dick heppneguy
rjR
If I remember right; sewing machines had knee operating/speed control for decades. Are we really that far behind "Singer"? I actually like the top switch on the DW 788! I wish I had been to that sale Dick was too. Oh Well, at least he got a few bargains!
Ron Johnson
Reminds me of the pump organ I have dated back to 1885. It has knee pedals to control the volume. I've used a foot pedal on the scroll saw for several years and wouldn't do without one.
Bendita
I don't ever remember not having a foot pedal and I don't even sit down to scroll. I used the switch on my saw once when it was brand new I turned it on and put tape over it so saw dust can't get in.
merlin
I stand at my saw and could not afford a foot pedal so I made one a knee pedal cause a foot one is in the way and one can accidentally step on it. ***Merlin***
LarryEA
I will have to get one and make it a knee pedal. I'm afraid all the saw dust would weight it down and turn it on.
Phantom Scroller
Kepy. I don't use a foot switch and I wonder if they do a head butt switch. I really don't get the foot switch when there's a perfectly good on /off switch in front of me. Perhaps there's a good reason for it but I just stop and switch it off. Sorry if I offend the waste of money foot pedal users. But I say save your money. ooh ahh controversial. Fab4
I tend to be at the saw for long periods of time When I stand I use the foot pedal When I sit I use the on/off switch. Bottom line - Whatever works for you - do it Fab4 Phantom Scroller

Ralph, I wish you could have been at the sale too, just not before me.. I could not believe what I fell into....There really was nothing else I was interested, except there was a metal lock box with no availabe key and there was something in it and it had a $2 price tag on it. I can't believe I didn't get i. Who knows what could have been in it ?
Kepy
Roly, I wouldn't have wanted the foot switch either but with the DeWalt, the on/off switch has a nasty habit of quitting. This results in a tear down and clean out. With the knee switch, I can tape over the saw switch and not worry about it. Phantom Scroller
Kepy now that is a good reason for a foot/knee switch. Good thinking. Roly

Phantom Scroller
Roly, I'm curious have you ever used a foot switch? Nope don't feel I need one but I have used one on a sewing machine. lol Edited October 19, 2014 by Phantom Scroller
Scrappile
Roly, I was just curious. I have never read where some one that had one, or tried one didn't really like it. Once I had one, I wouldn't be without it. I scrolled for quite a while without one, but really perfer having one. Phantom Scroller

Fish
I love mine . The best I have tried, I just make sure I completely take my foot off the pedal when I'm changing blades, and I shut it off when not in use.
NC Scroller
Went for years (about 10) without a foot pedal on my Dewalt. Though I never had an issue with the switch I decided to try a foot pedal. a couple years back. I kick my self everyday now for not trying it sooner. It makes things so much easier and faster. Paul You will now have to change it so you can say you have read of only one who tried it and did not like it. I have a practically new on/off (not dead man) foot pedal sitting on the shelf. Not interested in a dead man switch or any type of knee switch. Roly - stay the course, I do not think you would like one either. I would ship mine to you but shipping over the pond would probably cost more than it is worth; especially since to me it is worth nothing. Not critical of those who love them, but I am just not in that group. Phantom Scroller
