Basket Weave

Steve Good's Basket Weave.

I'm a slow scroller, this took me 4 hours and I am not sure

of the wood.

Looks a little like Oak, maybe it's Ash.

Larry this looks good and it looks like perhaps Red Oak.  Ash tends to have a closer grain and less pronounced grain structures.   Great job on the basket.  Thanks for sharing this with us.

I have to make another.

My wife claims the first bowl or basket.

I'd like to mix wood on this, but ain't worth the trouble.

Don't know how to make the sticks look like one piece (sticks that hold the staves together)

That don't look like ash, must be oak. looks good  I also have trouble with the sticks, I Don't know why just don't look right. but I can.t see it in your picture. Looks good to me. You are your worst critic.

   It was Steve Good's woven basket that got me interested in trying scrolling. this latest basket looks like a near duplicate of a previous one he made. i down loaded this pattern to cut and looked at the one I had already made and decided not to make it. You did a nice job with it and now i may go ahead and make it too. Thank you for posting this fine piece.

I'm going to have to agree with the rest of the comments and say it's oak. And that you did a great job!

Don't worry about the time - I've learned that consistency and dedication matter more than speed, so if the end result is as good as yours and you enjoyed the process, there's no reason to feel bad about it!

 It really is an easy cut. You need good firm wood because the weave is a thin cut all around

Great work. Oak is a beautiful wood. Steve has several patterns like that.

It doesn't matter how long it takes to make something, it the end result that counts, and that looks great. No wonder your wife wanted it.

Thats a great looking basket there, and only 4 hours to cut it too, It would have taken me longer to cut it.  The last one like that I tried to cut looked so bad when I finished it that it wend straight into the "Designer Firewood" bucket.
