Mort
Hi, my name is Scott, and I'm an alcoh--- Wait, wrong place. Anyhoo, just picked me up my very first scroll saw last weekend. I went for a Craigslisted Dewalt DW788 with the stand and light. Seems to be the best saw available until you get into the much higher dollar tools (and I had to save a while to get this one, so a Rockefeller I ain't), and it came highly recommended by a dude on a woodworking site I go to. I make wall maps out of pallet wood, and that thing works a helluva lot better than the stupid hobbyist band saw I got at a yard sale. I look forward to learning the ins and outs of this tool, hopefully get my wife to use it too (she has shown interest). amazingkevin, bobscroll and Wilson's Woodworking

Mort
Thanks, fellas. Here's a few I've made. All out of pallet wood. For one, I like the rustic look, I like the free-ness of pallets, and I live in a community that is both artsy and rural, do-it-yourselfy. I'm not sure why I chose to put the rivers on there, maybe because I live by one. Rob Roy and bobscroll
heppnerguy
A very cool idea, these maps of yours. I live in Eastern Oregon but I am not familiar with your town. Would you mind telling me where it is located ? While I am here I want to Welcome you to The Village. By the background of your Idaho wooden map,it looks like you might be a young father and obviously a family man. I too have a DeWalt saw and I think you will find that the more you use it, the more you will like it. How are you putting the rivers on your maps? Just wondering, they look very cool. Take a look around here and see what this site has to offer. Beside hundreds or I think thousands, of free patterns you can download for free, there is also the University that has many very well done videos on scrolling techniques and pattern making that you might enjoy and have your wife watch them with you. perhaps it will enthuse her to make different type items than you make. that would give you a double reason to spend even more time together.. don't forget to drop into the Coffee shop, that will be the best place to get to know what a bunch of friendly and fun people we have here. This site is run by Travis, who happens to live in Vancouver, Washington. Have fun, log on here often and if you have ANY QUESTIONS about your saw, blades, or how to do something new in scrolling, fire away and you will see that we all love to share our knowledge and ideas with each other. This is not only a scroller web site but also a world wide family. Once more, Welcome aboard Dick heppnnerguy Rob Roy

Mort
Thanks again, everybody. Dick - The Methow Valley is in the North Cascades. Go to Wenatchee, head north for an hour and a half, and you're there. For more information, Google "Carlton Complex" and you'll get more than you want to know (the fire started across the field from my house. We're fine, but cleanup is going to take a while). I have some brothers-in-law who are Oregonians, one in Gaston, and the other around Lebanon. I used my wood burner for the rivers and the embellishments on the maps. The Idaho map was a special order from my best friend's sister, as a Christmas gift for her husband. The drawing of the kayaker is actually him, from a picture I stole from her Facebook page. I have a repeat customer who has ordered a second Washington map (she also got one that I forgot to take a picture of), where I used my new saw to cut out the Washington Huskies logo, and I'm going to inlay it with a purple tinted epoxy. She's great in that she is letting me experiment with different stuff, since I'm very new to all this artsy woodworking stuff. My wife is an avid user of Pintrest, and when she searched for "scroll saw patterns" last night, she said "holy crap" at the amount and diversity of them. Sounds like we have a convert! Thanks for all the warm welcomes, folks.
jpochurek49
Hi, im Jim, I am a scrollaholic. I have a Dewalt 788 saw, and belong to Dfw scrollers in Dallas. Been a scroller for bout the 2nd yr. Im retired and have more projects lined up than I have time. I like making toys and puzzles, most of which are given away, but occasionally I sell a project or two to raise operating money. Uncle sam doesnt leave much to retire on. Ive become addicted to cutting, a hoarder of wood(I dont throw away scrap until its too small to cut) This doesnt lv much room in a 10 x 12 shop crammed w/drill press, 14"band saw, scroll saw, combo sander. Been retired for since 2002 and still not done with honey doo's and being 73 I get really cranky when I spend too much time away from my shop. A minute away from my shop is a minute too much. Joined the scroller club to learn to scroll and to be able to ask for help with solving problems and hopefully share what I learn with others. Other hobbies inc nature photography, art design, calligraphy, cad. Too many interests......soooo little time. And the body cooperates less & less every day .lol Anybody know of medicine for Dewalt fever??lol bobscroll and Rob Roy
wombatie
Hi Scott, welcome to the Village. I'm Marg from Australia, we met in Rogues Gallery. Your maps are quite unique, very nice. If your wife gets on the scroll saw you may have to buy another one, I am speaking from experience. Marg

Wilson's Woodworking
I look forward to learning the ins and outs of this tool, hopefully get my wife to use it too (she has shown interest). Welcome to the village! I love the maps, they are very original and a real eye catcher. I do have one little work of advice before you let your wife start using your scroll saw. Save up enough money to buy yourself a scroll saw because that one is about to become her saw. This scroll sawing is addicting and she won’t want to let you use it. Rob Roy

Hello Mort, A big WELCOME to the family, I'm Roy from Scotland, and NO I'm NOT a Whisky swilling Haggis muncher as some members of this family will infer, although I do have a LITTLE SIP now and again LOL. I do like those superb maps you do and the pyrography just sets them apart. Hope we see more of them,as I have never seen anything like that before. You must realise Mort, this scrolling has a health warning, as it is very addictive and there is no cure. So come on in and ENJOY the fun and serious stuff,(sometimes) . Take care and look after that lovely family you have. Rob Roy.
