Hello all,

I am looking into Scrolling, and lately I was researching a lot what Scrolling is concerned.

Seams to me that South Africa is very short of good quality makes. Before I give up Scrolling as a possibility of nice hobby, I decided to ask this community, is someone can help me with information where could I get it  from, and which is the good make.

So far I find available these models available in South Africa:

1. Dremel 70W, a bit weak...

2. Scheppach Scroll Saw (SD 1600), possibly good, I think problem with release mechanism, and some odd problem see video on YouTube "Scheppach Deco 405 V scrollsaw trying to kill me", also possibly very noisy...

3. RYOBI1600W Scroll Saw, I guess problem with release mechanism, and may others that I have seen as negative reports on Amazon, also I think it is noisy...

I live in Cape Town, South Africa.

I would appreciate, if someone can come with some suggestion or comment :)

Best regards

Srdjan

I did contact her, but still no concrete answer. Sue mentions Hegner saw, which I couldn't find yet, but seams to me it is very expensive saw... Quite a bit out of my price range...

Hello Ike, Thanks for the reply :)

I have bought Martlet already. Initially I was thinking to buy Excalibur, but it is impossible to buy it in South Africa, which is frustrating...

I might as well live in South Africa too, as it is difficult to find almost anything where I  live.. I hope you find just the right saw and get started on your endeavor because once you do , there is no looking back.

By the way, welcome to The Village, I will be interested to see what you were able to come up with

Hi I am Barbara from Pretoria South Africa

I might be able to add some help centres.  Have you asked Tools4Wood which works from the internet and based on the Easr Rand,Gauteng.  The other option is to try ask for hep at a hardware store witch supply scrow saw stuff but we have all the import costs and exchange rantes.  www.hardwarecentre.co.za

I have cheap no name brand from some oriental country and it helped me start and find out if I enjoyed it.  Money is our problem. PLEASE tel me how you did as I am also battling with the same problem.

I guess I am lucky . Here in the Cincinnati area you can buy just about anything. I buy a lot at Woodcrafts and they have about

anything . The low end scroll saw is the Dewalt788 and the high is the Excalibur. They are a little high but the Quality is good

Barbara, I guess you are lucky, most probably no teachers here, even if there are, who cares, as long as we convey messages that is what matters. I ahve bought Martlet scroll saw, Ryobi rival :)

Well, we are here to have some fun, and that is what counts. We are not able to get as the others, but lets se  what we can do with what we have. I am not scroll sawer as the most of people here, I wanted to make some lamps, as that is what I did many years ago, so, I got scroll saw to make easyer to make lamps. On the other hand, my girlfriend loves scroll sawing and she is busy making some Christmas ornaments. Specifficaly names... I am "perfectionist" looking for some perfect lamp idea, still did not found it :)
