heppnerguy
My grandson is big into his aquarium so I thought this little item might be something that goes well with his interests. So I bought the pattern and made it for him. I bought this pattern for $2.50. This was the first time that i have used one of these 'put it together yourself' type clocks and was not too sure about it, but it was easy enough, even for this old guy. It probably doesn't belong in the bragging rights as it really is not a piece to brag about but I thought it was a little unusual so that was why I placed it here.. spirithorse
Great job, Dick, My only critique would be that more color may have enhanced the project. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse
browders
I believe that is an absolutely bramble piece. Great job!
herrwood
Looking at the fish and being a new to scrolling gives me a chance to ask a question. How do you get the lines on the fish, marker paint, pencil ?
amazingkevin
Let me tell you bout my gran kids,Dick that's really something to brag about!I like it alot and very ingenious to have though of patterning this by someone!
heppnerguy
the lines in the fish are cut with the saw there is nothing added to this that I have not cut.. you will some day take a shot at something like this and find you too can do this. Don't rush too fast. Do what you know you can and then when you are getting comfortable with that , push yourself to a new level and try something that looks like a 'maybe I can do that' and cut one of the patterns you like but were afraid to try. You will find that your skill level is steadily increasing and as you push your skill level even more, you will really find out that you are getting better and better, then the day comes when you realize that you probably can cut about anything you want to spend the time to cut Dick heppnerguy Looking at the fish and being a new to scrolling gives me a chance to ask a question. heppnerguy
Great job, Dick, My only critique would be that more color may have enhanced the project. Thanks for sharing and God Bless! Spirithorse there really is more color than the photo shows but you are correct that it would look better with some more colorful wood. My wood supply is dwindling and I am desperately looking for more. the problem is no one in my area carries the wood I am after and the shipping doubles the cost of what I can find. and many of my regular suppliers are out of stock right now. wombatie
It looks good to me Dick so what is not to brag about. He will love it. Marg
DWSUDEKUM
Good going Dick. I like that. Wonder if something like perhaps some blue pine behind the clock would enhance it. It is quite nice as it is though. Like the idea a lot. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
Kragax
I believe this is what's called segmentation.(please correct me if I'm wrong) I think I could do something like that if I went slow. It is a really nice piece and well done. Now I'm off to search patterns LOL amazingkevin

heppnerguy
not sure I would call it segmentation. it is just some individual pieces that are glued onto the clock in a sort of 3D effect but I didn't use the spacers to make the pieces stand out because of wrapping and shipping. i thought the pieces might get broken or knocked off so i just glued them in place and left it at that.. and I agree that It might look better with other wood choices but I use Juniper here because it was the only wood I had that was wide and long enough. I think my grandson will like it as it is. Dick heppnerguy
Scrappile
Dick, had I done that you can bet I would be bragging. I really like it. I epically like the little fish in the upper right corner, swimming through the ripples in the wood caused by the knot. Looks like it is swimming sun rays shinning through ripples in the water. I think your grand son will love that and be very proud of his Grandpa. Edited November 17, 2014 by Scrappile

spirithorse
Nice job, Dick, I didn't mean my comment to sound like criticism. I really like the work you did. Everyone has their own interpretation of a project like that. I would have probably used some stain or watered down acrylic paint. Still showing the grain but, making some colorful tropical fish. That is just one possibility. Many people don't like to use anything except the natural color of the wood which is also a fine alternative. I hope I did not offend you. That certainly was not my intention. God Bless! Spirithorse

If I were going to do it over again, I probably your do exactly as you suggested. I completely agree with you. I have painted some of my cuttings and I liked it buy most of my family did not so I stay way from in when I can. It definitely would add a lot to this piece. Thanks for the comments. I really appreciate them. You never need to worry about offending me. If ever I was to think that I knew it all, I would stop learning anything, I am almost 75 years old and I know there is not enough time for me on Earth to pass up the chance to learn something form everyone I meet.
