Clayton717
I'm looking to buy a new saw. my Dewalt has bit the dust after 2 1/2 - 3 years. I was planning on buying a used saw to save money and "get me by" but now I'm just going to buy a new one. No more Dewalts. I'm going back and forth between the Hawk and the Excalibur. Can anyone that has these saw or has used them give me some help. I'm really leaning towards the Hawk. how is the blade change or doing inside cuts with the hawk? I have seen both saws work but would like some input from people that have used them more than me just trying them for a few minutes. As of right now I'm using my old reliable Dremel 1800. heppnerguy
I have recently purchased a Hawk but I really can not help you because I have yet to use it. I believe it is one of the best saws on the market but I really can not help you, without having used mine yet. I am sorry to hear that you have not enjoyed your DeWalt as for me, the more I use mine the more I like it. I have had mine for several years and have not had to buy any parts except for one thumb screw that holds the upper part of the blade and i attribute that to the piece that I made from Steve Good's site that I believe put more pressure on the threads than they are designed to take. No trouble with it since i stopped using it. One of the things I like about the Hawk is the blade stroke is longer than the other saws on the market and it is extremely smooth running. Did you see the video where they run the saw with a dime standing on edge, on the saw table while it ran ? More people own the Excaliber than the Hawk, but then the Hawk is about 2/3rd the price of the Hawk too. I doubt you can go wrong with either one, but I also feel that way about the DeWalt too. Good luck with what ever you choose. Dick heppnerguy

Scrolling Steve
Clayton, the only saw i have ever owned is the Excalibur Ex21.......I love the saw and if some reason had to buy another saw in the morning I would do it again! I will also reccomend Seyco to buy from. The guys at seyco are helpful and the saw was set up when i got it .....I just put a blade in it and started cutting. Scrappile
I own an Ex 21 also and love it, but to have the opportunity to choose between it or a Hawk,,, I would probably go with the Hawk. Coarse if I could afford that I would look real hard at the Hegner also. It would be a tough decision, for sure. Good luck.
Phantom Scroller
I wouldn't go for the hawk as the table tilts not the motor as the EX-21 the motor tilts not the table much easier for angles, only my opinion. Roly.
Clayton717
Thanks for the input guys. I believe I'm going with the Hawk. I've been wanting one for years so now just got to save up the rest of the money. Roly the Excalibur is the only saw I know of that the head tilts instead of the table. I don't do much cutting where I need an angle cut so this isn't a concern.

Jim Finn
I had a similar experience with a DeWalt. Mine lasted only 20 months. I went to a new Hegner in 2008 and still have it.(Polymax) I cut 3/4" and thicker material and the DeWalt did not hold up under that use. I cut this thick stock with my scroll saw about 30 hours a week. When using a tool that much, durability is important. amazingkevin and Clayton717

Savannah Scroller
No Questions Buy the Ex-21! Its the Best Saw ever made ! I love it . It changes blades so easy. Runs quiet and smooth. Love the Lifting Arm. And the tilting head. To me it is well worth the extra money. KEEP ON SCROLLING!! Clayton717
