Hello from a noob in AL...

Hi guys!

Been wandering through the forums for a couple of days now, but it's time I step out of the shadows.

A few years ago, I picked up a Skil SS (it was on sale and I thought it might come in handy to have one for who-knows-what). I set it up in my shop, but have used it only once to slice a few small dowels into spindles for a thread spool rack. Anyway, I figured it would work to learn on rather than spending big $$$ on a higher-end unit in case I found scrolling wasn't for me.

So, here I am, a few years later and have decided to jump in and give this craft a try. Ordered a few dozen blades from Sloan's (skip tooth, various sizes above jeweler's blades). I have a LOT of scrap 3/4 stock left over from where we built our kitchen cabinets (boards and ply) and some 1/4 ply, so I should be set for enough wood to at least learn the mechanics of cutting.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello.

May all go well with your scroll sawing so you decide to upgrade your saw.

It is an addicting hobby.

Some one say Helpful? Hello Sherry welcome to the village you've successfully made the first two steps into what some people call a hobby, I call it an addiction.

Step 1 Saw step 2 seek and find the nicest people in the world to help you become a star in scrolling. Plenty of free patterns and info not always free cause you have to listen to some old turkey whose been running his saw since conception, but a small price to pay.

Well have fun and make lots of sawdust and remember we love pictures so share your works ( nobody has laught so far)

.../Hans

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm quite sure I'll have a LOT of Qs, but, right now, I'm searching through the forum ISO info before I ask something that's already been asked a gazillion times...and I'm quite sure I'll fail miserably and end up asking anyway!

Gotta run...German Shepherd pup is trying to eat my firewood...

I got comments....to your comment.

Please ask questions.

  • Some of us got interupted before we could answer it last time and we are hoping it will come up again.
  • At the top right of each page at SSV is a SEARCH BAR, just enter a term that pretains to the page you are on.
  • Never, never claim failure!! And ask it even if you know the answer.

Here's why you ask when you know the answer... because there is more than one way to do it.

What's your Shepherd's name? Make him your avitar.  He's helping by making kindling.

Note of caution ,there are a lot of lurkers on the reading end as well ,you will note the vast difference between the veiwers and the responders ,

some I fear will never respond ,just gathering info . I'm sorry for that ,their imput could be refreshing and note worthy .But time and circumtances as well as interest level play a major part ! Welcome ,Join in as time permits and post pixs as well ,We all had our first projects !

I want to add my two cents too.. Welcome to The Village. I like to stress that logging on as often as possibly, many do one or more a day. This is the way we get to know each other> Sherry, you have stumbled into one of the best families on the planet and we all want you to feel that family tie. the most  you log on and post the faster you will know you are part of this family. For us it is all about sharing our skills and see others works, posting our projects and learning from one another, we also really like to just have fun with one another. This site should be named Friendly Village. Explore everything you can find here and enjoy yourself. We are looking forward to seeing what you make too.
