New From Minnesota, U.S.A.

Hi all,

I am new to the site and interested in using the scroll saw in making Whirligigs and thought this might be a good place to start. I recently retired and moved to Minnesota where my wife has family. I just finished insulating and heating my garage, and still setting up my shop ... I have a converted cargo trailer and camp out as I look at the new area I have moved to.

I wish you all a great Christmas and Holiday Season ...

A big welcome from me too. I am glad you have found us. I hope you realize that logging onto the Village is a very important thing for you to do, as this will get you acquainted with all the regulars and then eventually those who have become, not one of the regulars but they still are part of our big world wide family. I hope to get to know you as a regular too. The people here are extremely fun to hang out with and have assorted talents and skill levels. You can rest assured that you will never be put down here, just encouraged.

Hi all and thank you for such a warm welcome,

I have enjoyed what few scrollsaw projects I have worked on; nothing like what I have seen on this site, but I am enjoying it and it keeps me out of my wife's way.

I am developing this new hobby in woodworking; my old (and still my favorite) hobby was prospecting and as Minnesota has little to offer in gold prospecting, I need something to keep me busy during the long winters ... maybe I can make the trip to the Australia's outback some day   . I still plan on venturing out to nearby states and even some western states not so close, for a "fix" in nugget hunting.

Wishing all a great Christmas and a better New Year...  :santa:

Well you found the golden nugget as far as scroll sawing forums go. Come on in and make yourself comfortable. Grab a cup of Joe and take a good long look around. I would bet you will find something to keep you busy for a while in the pattern gallery. Just make sure you post some pictures of your work so we can all enjoy them. I know I would love to see pictures of the whirly gigs in process or completed.

Welcome to the village and hope you join in the fun. :)

I have designed a couple of new new Whirligigs and played with a couple of ideas for the gigs ... artwork and major ideas are all roughed in on paper. Now, if I can get the rest of my tools dug out, set up and tweaked after the move from Arizona. I unpacked the scroll saw and see that the table has shifted ... I'll get it set up and see if something is broke, bent, or just needs adjustment ...      So many things were damaged and or can't be found ... yet (movers)    :grr:

The drill press is in and needs to be bolted to the floor, the saw table is still wrapped, but is rolling, the dust collector still needs the piping run, and the list goes on ...   I guess that is why the garage is now heated ... I can work in there when the temp is too cold outside.  ;)

As soon as I have any pics and can figure out what and how to post, I will post some pics ...

Happy season ti all ...

JC  :santa:
