LarryEA Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 This came up once before but I cannot find where or when it was. I'm a bottom feeder. Quote
Scrolling Steve Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 I have a EX-21 and proudly bottom feed! Quote
Rover2 Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 I have an EX-21 and a DW788 and top feed with both. Got used to it and now feel strange doing it any other way. Tried a couple times to bottom feed with my EX but found it more difficult to clamp the blade in the upper blade clamp. Old man stuck in his old ways I guess. Al Quote

wombatie Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 From my very first day on a scroll saw I have been a bottom feeder. Marg Quote
Bendita Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 My saw is a Dw788 but I bottom feed as I find when ever I top feed my blade always gets stuck behind the holder instead of in front also find it hard to push the blade through that tiny hole with the teeth pointing down. Quote
danny Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 Have owned three other saws along with what I use at present....HEGNER.... All have been Bottom Feeding. The Hegner ONLY FEEDS BOTTOM. Side note.... Seems if TOP FED you have to attach to bottom of the blade IN THE BLIND. Can't imagine doing it. Danny :+} Quote
mikewix Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 I have 2 saws 220 RBI Hawk and a 788 DeWalt and bottom feed them both. Quote
ike Posted December 20, 2014 Report Posted December 20, 2014 I have a DW 788 and I feed both ways, but mostly from the top. Quote

Danny :+} Hey Danny, yes you do attach the blade "in the blind", but it becomes secund nature after a little practice. I can change from hole to hole without looking at the bottom clamp in about ten seconds and you don't have to lift the work off the table. Quote
browders Posted December 21, 2014 Report Posted December 21, 2014 DW 733. Feed from the top, but now I'm intrigued. Jim Quote
Scrappile Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 I've tried top feeding many times and really struggle with it. I have an Ex - 21. I find it very difficult to line the hole I am feeding the blade through with the hole in the table. On the Ex there are holes around the blade hole and I often get the blade fed into one of those holes. I think I just not coordinated enough for top feeding. I'm a carp. Quote
Wilson's Woodworking Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 Top feeder now. Before I had always bottom fed with my Hegner and Dremel but with the cam action clamps on my Delta P20 it made it easy to top load. I be lovin it. :D Quote
fredfret Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 I top feed with both the Dewalt and my Bushton (Hawk) I can never find the tiny holes and bending the blade cuts down on blade life. Just my $0.02 Fredfret Wichita, Ks Quote
browders Posted December 22, 2014 Report Posted December 22, 2014 After reading all the posts, yesterday I thought I'd give top feeding another try. Nope, just not gonna happen. I think my experience with top feeding is like my experience with spiral blades. Great for others, but not for me. Great thread though. Jim Quote
