LarryEA Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 When you are scrolling, do cut in a clockwise or counter clockwise direction? Just curious because I noticed I tend to almost always cut counter clockwise. Quote
Multifasited Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 Are you left handed or right handed ? Only when I angle cut ,do I reverse and that is because I don't want to screw up the angle depending on which way I want that piece to wedge in or out on the same piece . Except with spirals then I go every which way ,depending on the piece with no tilt ! LarryEA 1 Quote
browders Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 Both ways. Kind of ambidextrous. Jim LarryEA 1 Quote
DWSUDEKUM Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 I think it has a lot to do with rather you are right handed or left handed. This determines generally which eye is dominant for right handed folks the left eye is generally more dominant and the opposite for the left handed folks. We tend to favor movement where the dominant eye can have a clearer view. So right handed folks - the majority of folks, tend to cut counter clockwise. Now this is just my opinion of course I do not have any scientific facts to back it up, however, it makes sense. DW LarryEA 1 Quote

Kepy Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 (edited) When I think about it, I try to keep the right side of the blade into the waste area. Of course, I don't often think so really just whichever way that is convenient. When I saw your topic, my first response was to start from the beginning to the end. Doug Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 Right handed and counter clockwise is the preference although some cuts I will do better clockwise. Almost exclusively use spirals. LarryEA 1 Quote

Dan Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 I'm also right handed and cut ccw. That is I move the wood counterclockwise to the blade. The cut (kerf) is moving in a clockwise direction. LarryEA 1 Quote

dgman Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 clockwise, counter clockwise, I cut in both directions when needed. But I usually cut with the waste on the right. I purposely teach this to my students. By picking a dedicated direction, its easier to teach the little tricks on cutting tight inside and outside cuts. Quote
wombatie Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 I'm right handed and I cut clockwise and from what I have read that makes me weird.  Marg Quote
Bendita Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 < ??????????>????????? < > This means both ways what ever it takes to get the job done I use mainly spirals so I'll cut both ways to wear out the blade equally. Quote
amazingkevin Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 Thanks Hans,i never thought about that, that the spiral can wear out on a side.I've noticed that it will cut better at times ,i guess it's those times that i'm cutting with the part of the blade that's not wore out.Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!Every little tip & trick pays off in the long run!
