Are you left handed  or right handed ? Only when I angle cut ,do I reverse and that is because I don't want to screw up the angle depending on which way I want that piece to wedge in or out  on the same piece . Except with spirals then I go every which way ,depending on the piece with no tilt !

I think it has a lot to do with rather you are right handed or left handed.  This determines generally which eye is dominant for right handed folks the left eye is generally more dominant and the opposite for the left handed folks.  We tend to favor movement where the dominant eye can have a clearer view.  So right handed folks - the majority of folks, tend to cut counter clockwise.  Now this is just my opinion of course I do not have any scientific facts to back it up, however, it makes sense.

When I think about it, I try to keep the right side of the blade into the waste area.  Of course, I don't often think so really just whichever way that is convenient.

When I saw your topic, my first response was to start from the beginning to the end.

clockwise, counter clockwise, I cut in both directions when needed. But I  usually cut with the waste on the right. I purposely teach this to my students.

By picking a dedicated direction, its easier to teach the little tricks on cutting tight inside and outside cuts.

Thanks Hans,i never thought about that, that the spiral can wear out on a side.I've noticed that it will cut better at times ,i guess it's those times that i'm cutting with the part of the blade that's not wore out.Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!Every little tip & trick pays off in the long run!
