wdkits1
Well, between the closet project, finishing 10 dining room chairs, refinishing 2 end tables, getting a few intarsia kits ready to ship and a few things on the honey-do list I finally managed to get in some scrolling time. This is a sign that I did for a customer for her beach house. It was made from Mahogany with Cyprus on walnut letters. The letters are cut at a 5 degree angle to allow the walnut to appear as a shadow. The frame is one piece, cut on the scroll saw using the cut and drop method which allows the area where the letters are to be recessed. After gluing the drop down section in place I ran it through the planer to flush up the back of the frame. Finished with 4 coats of spray-on Spar Varnish. Fun little project. Cyprus on Walnut letters cut at 5 degrees gives depth and shadows. Back of sign shows no cut lines.
shadylady0447
That is a very nice looking sign Mike! I have been wanting a planer for a long time and now you have shown me another reason why I need one! Thanks for showing us.
Travis
That turned out great. Letters are the one thing I struggle with. You did a beautiful job on them. I really like the shadow lines too. It really adds a lot of dimension and interest to the sign. Nicely done!
