DWSUDEKUM
Russ scrolling is fun. It is addictive and can be really rewarding. It is not really all that hard either. Driving a car is hard .... at first, until you get used to it then it becomes like second nature. Scrolling can be the same way. Start off easy, get your legs under ya and keep making things. Before you know it you will be doing a Charles Dearing pattern. I am looking forward to seeing your creations. BTW great job on those. Thanks for sharing these with us. Doug
Russell I am intimidated by all of you wonderful pattern makers. In comparison scrolling is easy - just follow the lines and tighten your pucker factor when you get to the "O", "S", and "C" letters. It is mostly relaxing and learning you feed into the blade at an angle to cut a straight line and then trying to figure out how the h____ you feed to get the perfect curved line. You will have perfection in no time and be wondering why more experienced scrollers like myself are still having to think about how to do it instead of just doing it. You will get addicted to cutting; I just hope you do not get so addicted that you forget to do and share your wonderful patterns. Think what you could do with a $10 saw. Birchbark
Oh my! you all are so funny, no i mean whoa, this was tough. I asked Travis years ago, how small can i make .... blah blah. I learned to make patterns, fun, i couldn't understand why "they" couldn't do THAT! Ha. I see, whoa. tougher than i thought. I appreciate all the encouragement, but i think i will let all you pros show me the way. I must admit, i did learn a lot from reading every thing you say, so yes, it was my first, but i had pictured it many times. Thank you all for that. I will keep drawing it, you keep cutting it. Hows that work for ya? I don't know how you do it.. Russell Wilson's Woodworking
Lucky2
Russell, I hate to think that your throwing in the towel and giving up, especially, if this is your first cutting on a $5.00 saw. You definitely have the ability to cut, all you need is more practice. Don't give up so quickly, I think that if you stick with it, you'll really enjoy it. Your skills at making patterns is amazing, why not be amazing at cutting some of those patterns out with the scrolling skills you seem to already have? dgman
Hey Russ, you did a great job on your first cutting! My question to you is how did you get into scroll saw pattern making without ever cutting? I remember your post about your $5 scroll saw, but what kind of saw is it? Don't forget, I am a scroll saw instructor. I would love to give you a beginners course, but you have to come to my shop in Southern California! wombatie
Wow I never realized that you don't scroll, oh sorry I should say didn't. That amazes me. You do all of these fine patterns that I just assumed. And I know one should never assume. Well you have the hardest one out of the way, your first, you will get better from here on, you just need to practice. They look great.
