Thanks guys! The piece measures 17" x 8.5". The back is1/2" BBP and I ran it across my table saw an 1/8" deep to get the strips then painted the blue. I didn't put any finish on the back because I liked the way the grain was. The star frame and letters were staind cherry and 3 coats of satin spray poly. The guy asked if I had some old wood to make it look rustic, but I didn't. So I just covered it with blue painters tape and left it on for a couple days. Usually when I do that the tape will pull some holes in the BB, not so much this time except for a little around the top edge. He was very happy with it any way. That's all that matters I guess.
