Hello just found out about your site from you tube. glad I found some place to discuss scroll sawing. I am from West Virginia city that is as far west as you can get without leaving the state Huntington. I recently retired and am happy I can finally get out into the shop. I haven't used a scroll saw more than a couple of times but enjoyed it when I did. it looks like something I can spend time learning and improving my skill level.

Welcome to our combined --Whatevere it is!!!--4

Sanity not required; but we do have a good time and even give each other some guff!!

Ask any question and some of the pros here will know the answer!

I might be able to help find the person to ask!

Do not worry about pleasing anyone except the person in the mirror!

Make your "nest" comfortable for you!! Do not worry about how the "pros' do it === If it works for you that is the way you should do it!

Remember it is cheaper than golf, warmer(usually) a lot less frustrating and you can wear the clothes YOU LIKE! It even requires considerably less booze to keep going than golf does!!!

FOR ME at least also a lot more fun than looking for a tiny ball that seems to go everywhere except where it should!

I echo rjR... Well said.

We scroll, intarsia and other woodwork.

I love to scroll, it's a passion and an addiction.

Maybe even a sickness.

And this creats a sawdust problem. My scrollsaw is here somewhere.                            post-5492-0-08902000-1422406310_thumb.jpg

When you have time, stop by the Coffee Shop.

Welcome

Jack, I too wish to welcome you. There are lots of places under the 'format' tag. Scroll through them and find out what they are all about. This will be a big help all by itself. The next best thing you can do is to log on here as often as you can because that is how everyone gets to know you and visa-versa.  You will soon discover that this sight pretty much cover the globe we all live on called Earth, in English. There are a lot of pattern makers here that love to help you create a special pattern, if you need one. There are also several videos where you can learn to make your own patterns, if you prefer. The Coffee house is a hang out for many of the regulars and is a lot of fun to visit on a regular basis. Everyone here in  The Village is friendly and very helpful. No one will put down even the beginning pieces that may not have the best cuts in it. One is only encouraged and praised for their efforts because there is not a sole that had not started with their first project. I have a couple of suggestions for you that may or may not help you, just read them through and see..

1. Do not pick a really difficult pattern to cut at the beginning or you may discourage yourself, (we don't want that to happen to anyone )

2. Do not us box store scroll saw blades as they will only cause one to think 'they just can't seem to get it'

3. If you have a question ASK.  example the pattern continues to lift from the wood...I keep braking blades...what is the best kind of wood to use ?

4. I Do not know how to upload patterns or photos of my work

5. Are there any other sites where I can find more free patterns

Have fun and come back often.

Dick

Hi Jack welcome to the Village.  I'm Marg from Australia.  Got any questions just ask and someone will answer, may not be the right answer but you will get one. ;)   Honestly though there may be 3 or 4 different answers try them all and then you will find one to suit you.  Happy scrolling.
