GrampaJim
I have found a Hegner 14" Mulimax on Craigslist for $300. The description say it has a slotted table. Why a slot? Good of bad? Jim AlfrediaMum
Dan
Jim, I think this is what they are talking about.
GrampaJim
But why would you want a slot in table? That's the opposite of a zero clearance insert. Seems wrong to me.
Fish
Sounds like a great price. I'd go for it and check it out.
Ron Johnson
I believe this is Hegner's set up for changing blades which I think is just fine.
amazingkevin
They spent lots of dollars to design it this way , must be some good explanation for it!
Travis
Hegner has an different way of setting up blades. Basically, the blade holder/clamp is removable. You attach your blade to the clamp first, then slide it into brackets that hold the clamp. I'm not sure how you're supposed to thread your blade through for internal fretwork. Seems like a significant hurdle to cross. However, Hegners are a popular high end saw, so I suspect it isn't an issue. Here's the manual if you want to take a closer look: https://www.advmachinery.com/manuals/H-manual.pdf I believe they also have a conversion kit that will make blade changing similar to the way other saws. Here's an article about their conversion kit vs the original method. heppnerguy
Kragax
This is a similar set up to my Hawk with no slotted table. Threading fretwork is a pain, but I love the saw.
GrampaJim
Thanks everyone for the help. That's what I love about this place - good info from good people. Helps me not feel like a lone ranger. Since it is only a 14" and would need the upgraded clamps, I am going to wait. Jim
