This is not a Brag as such. At the start of the year Travis asked what we would be doing in 2015 or something like that, 2 of the things that I mentioned that I wanted to have a go at were cutting very thin Stainless Steel and doing an Intarsia project.  Well I have not done the Intarsia yet but that will happen soon. Anyway I got out my piece of Stainless Steel the other day and cut this.post-1251-0-67020000-1423803385_thumb.jpg  Has you can see its not the best but I was pretty happy with it.  Well my daughter gave me a small piece of Copper yesterday so out I went today and had a go at cutting it,  post-1251-0-26476800-1423803695_thumb.jpg  and I must say I am thrilled with the way they turned out.  The Copper was slighter thicker than the stainless steel which I think helped a lot.  I know that these little jig saw pieces are not of the same caliber as the coins people cut, but to me they are priceless it's like beginning my scroll saw hobby all over again.  So it's true we are never too old to learn.

Marg,

Those are great pieces. I like that you are sticking to your (sort of New Years resolutions).  I can't wait to see where you are going with this new found art. I will also be sending you an really easy intarsia pattern so you can make your first piece of intarsia. I am excited to be a part of that effort

A nice wee bit of tartan Marg. :D  :D . You'll find the copper a lot easier to cut since it's much softer than the steel, but you made a good job of both for a first attempt. They're very good. Keep at it Marg. ;)  ;) .

I'm anxious to see where this is going.  Are you gearing up to cut coins? I love that stuff and want try it some day.  One thing that troubles me about it is do the metal filings have any adverse effect on a saw?  They would be very fine fillings that look to me would not be good for it.  Any one know the answer?

Marg what blade are you using to cut those.? Roly

Marg what blade are you using to cut those.? Larry & Roly

They are 2/0 Jewelers Blades.  I got them from Gemcuts   www.gemcuts.com.au   I just got the budget ones and they cut very nicely.

I know you've been cutting things but not posting them??? That's ok but thanks for showing these.Since you got your new saw we haven't seen much coming in the village???

No Kevin I always post when I make something new, I just don't post when its something that is already in my gallery.  Most of last year seemed to be taken up with making Christmas ornaments which you had all seen, and I must admit it was a nice little money earner.

Hi Marg:

Nice cutting and thought process.

How hard would it be to cut an initial into the puzzle piece

I'm thinking for a necklace and/or possible earrings after a

nice smooth sanding.

Either way, they look good

Thanks for showing us

Fab4

It would not be hard at all to cut an initial in the center of a jig saw piece, thanks for the idea, I will try to keep it in a safe place.  ;)  The idea not the jig saw piece.

Do you sandwich the metal between thin pieces of wood? I found it to be very helpful when cutting metal to keep the edges from catching on the blade and bending.

No Kate I didn't this time but I may next time, depending on what I am cutting and what its for.
