Jonathan Shockley Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) So I'm new to scroll sawing and I just bought a Hegner, mainly to cut out simple patterns for slingshots that I want to sell (just a few over and over again). The other day, when I was trying out the saw, I cut out a few patterns using a photocopied blueprint (see pic) Unfortunately, the glue was kinda hard to remove. Is this the best way to cut out patterns, or is there any other way? Edited February 17, 2015 by JonathanShockley AlfrediaMum 1 Quote

Scrolling Steve Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 A lot of us use painters tape on the wood, then glue the pattern onto the tape. remove the tape and the pattern comes with it. Jonathan Shockley 1 Quote
Jonathan Shockley Posted February 17, 2015 Author Report Posted February 17, 2015 Very smart Steve, Thanks! Quote
Kepy Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 For a simple design that you will be cutting numerous times, it is easier to cut a template from something like 1/8" masonite that you can draw around and then cut. Scrolling Steve and Jonathan Shockley 2 Quote
ike Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 on simple jobs like you want just draw on the wood off of a template. for more completed jobs use the painters tape . Jonathan Shockley 1 Quote
Clayton717 Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 As othere have said, if your making several of a simple pattern make a pattern out of thin stock. I use poster board alot for this. when I glue patterns to wood I use mineral spirits on a rag a just wipe over it, it softens the glue and the pattern peels off Jonathan Shockley 1 Quote

Scrappile Posted February 17, 2015 Report Posted February 17, 2015 I agree with most, for repetitive cuts of larger item, as you are doing, a template is the way to go. If you get into small thing or fret work, here is a nice little video of different ways to attach/remove patterns. Scrolling Steve and Jonathan Shockley 2 Quote
LarryEA Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 You cut that enough times, you won't need a pattern Jonathan Shockley 1 Quote
tvman44 Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 I know this is a Scrollsaw forum, but if I was cutting out something like slingshots over & over I would use a router and a pattern bit. Just MHO. Quote
