willie
i have a question to ask when you are doing a pattern that has a lot of black in it.i have been using black backer board on the pattern where u see thru it where the blade cut out BUT what do you do if the whole portrait is just about black (like a black angus cow) standing in a field. i feel like it would look weird if you cut the cow and and just put black backer board where the cow was.am i missing something? thanks willie
Dan
You may be surprised at how good it may look. I suggest trying it. If it doesn't work for you then just try another background. I've seen some folks use a photo as a background, too.

DonR
Willie, Unless it is a silhouette, even a black subject like the cow would have a lot of white in it. And no it wouldn't look weird. The black angus pattern would look something like this
