edward
Just ordered parts for my dewalt scrollsaw at ereplacements.com. Needed the blade chuck, clamp knob and set screw. Blades kept coming loose and the screw was striped. edward
Multifasited
When you get them make sure you set set screw correctly ,DEAD FLUSH w/blue lock tight ,and use anti-sieze compound on the clamp screw threads only !That will add 3 times the life to the unit ! heppnerguy
Here is what I believe. There are several patterns out there that is supposed to help you put more hold down pressure on your blade , if you uses it. Steve Good has made one of the patterns for free, on his web sight. They really do the job well but a word of caution. They also put much added strains on the saws thumb screw. I made one for my saw because the blades seem to work loose as I was cutting a pattern and this added wooden piece that was put over thumb screw accomplished what I was after. I was really happy that I had discovered this helpful pattern. However, in a rather short time, I discovered that my had stripped and I was now waiting a replacement for my stripped part. Shortly after replacing my set screw, I read an article that was warning against using such a device on my saw because it would eventually cause the thumb screw to stip. What now ? Then I read about the thin layer of protective oil on the new blades and that they needed to oil free. I found out I needed to clean off that oil layer. I use a small piece of sandpaper that I always have by my saw. Never does another blade get put into me saw until it is sanded on both sides of each end of the blade. I only need to hand tighten the thumbscrew, with no kind of additional tool. That was several years ago and I have not had another thumbscrew stip on me since. me5269
Dick, Thanks for posting why you had to replace your clamp assembly. I made the add-on you referred to. It didn't strip the threads, but After about 6 months of use, it spread the clamp apart so the knob screw and set screw didn't line up. ike
Woring in a machine shop for 52 years i learnt that anti siege works best on set screws it allows you to tighten set screws with less force and it makes it easier to remove the set screw. Graeme Butcher
Dick, you have reminded me of an important step that i have been forgetting. I am purely self taught and recall hearing about sanding the sides of the blades. Does this help straight cutting? Would this help my band saw too? I have a pinned Frejoth. I have never cut on another saw. I wonder whether it vibrates more than others. Graeme
