Saw down

The other day my Dewalt 788 started making knocking sounds that are getting worst. Started looking into Dewalt repair shops in Wisconsin. Most that I talked to would take my saw and ship it to Milwaukee. Luckily  I found one just a couple towns away that fix them on site. Was told about 2 weeks turn around. So I'm sawless and not happy as I had just sold my  RBI Hawk 220 3 weeks ago (because who needs 2 saws) Guess I'll get all those frame made that I'm behind on. I've been looking at the excaliber saw, How do you owners like yours? Mike

Sorry to hear that Mike.  Why would you sell a Hawk and keep a DeWalt?  Just curious.  I had a DeWalt, nothing wrong with it but I bought a Excalibur 21.  It is a nice saw, although I am having some problems with mine.   Maybe self induced, but I will see.  I owe Ray Seyco a call back to explain it some more.  I don't think it is common to have problems, especially when it is not even a year old yet.  I do think the Excalibur is a step up from a DeWalt.  I like the tension setting and the quick release setup much better.  I think the Ex runs smoother, less vibration.  I do not  think you will sorry if you buy an Excalibur.  The table tilting verses the arm tilting doesn't matter to me, I have yet to saw something where I will care.  Maybe some day, but I think either way works fine.  However, if you can afford it or figure our a way to do it, bypass the Ex and move right on up to  a Hegner or Hawk. ...  You know you will want to......

I have a DeWalt and an Ex21 and if someone said to me "You can only keep one"  I would keep the DeWalt.  The blades go in easier, the cutting area is further away not on top of you and the tension is easier.  No it's the Dewalt for me every time.

You always need a second saw, between us my husband and I have 4 saws.  I have often got work going were I can use both saws all I have to do is change seats.  ;)   Hope your saw comes home to you soon.

I wouldn't part with my EX21, I've used many saws over the years, but, none as nice to cut on as the EX21. I've owned my saw for 3-4 years now, and I've never had any problems with it and I use it a fair amount. I've got my doubts that if you tried an EX21, that you wouldn't want to own one. That's what happened to me, I tried out an EX21 and just had to have one.

It's a minor job ,easy to fix ,just not as much fun as buying another saw ,you can't fix your self for free ! But hey ! if you feel the need to have a spare ,or two You must make a hell of a lot of money at it . Anything mechanical has issues from time to time ,Mines a hobby ,thats all part of owning HOBBY  stuff .You Pro's that make a living sawing ,past the HOBBY class and entered the business class , I have not heard of any one hiring additional help to expand and keep up with the overflow of business ,and adding on for additional Growth ! Some may ,if so ,it's a closely guarded secret !
