cdawson41
Hello, just found this web site this evening and I'm so very happy. I have not yet started scroll saw work but am in the planning stages of it. I have some woodworking background and this is something I have always wanted to do. So right now I'm researching to find out what type of scroll saw I should get and trying to locate patterns that look like they would be easy to start with. I have many hobbies and some of those include needle work which makes me think that this will be a good hobby for me once I learn it. I am married, we have three boys all in the Army, one headed back to Iraq for a second tour. one on the Army Culinary Competition team (yes he is much more than a cook lol) and one son just medically retired, an 8 year old daughter at home and a 1 yr old grandson. It's always quiet at our house.....NOT LOL.

Firedkm
Welcome to the Village! Glad to have you here. As far as buying a scrollsaw its a matter of preference. There is a wide range of cost. Anywhere from $100.00 to several thousand! I would recommend that what ever saw you get make sure it has the following options. 1. The saw will work with plain end blades 2. The blade holder has a quick release. I have the Dewalt scroll saw and love it. I would consider that a mid level saw. The cost is around $500.00 with a stand. If you shop around you will find better prices.
cdawson41
I will pass your thanks along to the boys, and I appreciate it. Also thanks for the advice on the scroll saw things to look for. It seems I'm going to be home a bit until I recover some of the auto accident I was in, so it will give me plenty of time to research. cdawson41
Wow, Okay so I'm not far from Springefield really, I'm in Warrensburg so that is nice to know there is someone close. I finally purchased my scrollsaw this weekend, it's a Hitachi CW40 and it came with a stand, since the wreck the stand makes it very nice. So now I'm just diddling around trying to learn how to stay on the lines etc and get this down pat. I read a lot of what people had to say and this saw will use both flat blades and the others (sorry forgot my terminology for a moment). It's a very quiet machine which is nice. I'm heading back out to the shop, hubby is installing a spiral blade for me so that hecan show me how to do it.
