David Hall
I'm just getting started in scrolling. After a few days research I've decided on the Craftsman saw. It gets decent reviews, doesn't break the bank and has the required features for a beginner hobbiest. My next question is blades. I'm going to get some spiral and reverse cut to start. The question is is there a guide somewhere that will tell me what number and what tpi is best for a certain type wood? Or, is this something that only comes with trial and error until I earn my scrolling black belt?
Lvmedic3214
http://www2.woodcraft.com/PDF/Olson-scrollblade-chart.pdf This is a downloadable pdf for Olson blades. Should get you close with other manufacturers too. Scrolling Steve and Larry A. Blakely

David Hall
I hear everyone talk about Flying Dutchman blades. Where is a reputable source to buy these things? Some of the websites that come up when I google them don't look all that official.

Kepy
www.mikesworkshop.com for FD blades. For me, they are the best available. I used to have a shop and sold Olsen blades but when I found the FD's I switched and haven't looked back. I have heard that Pegasus is a good blade also. WayneMahler
I use Flying Dutchman Blades only. I order mine from Mikesworkshop.com I understand The Wooden Teddybear just bought Mike out and they are keeping his web site and prices. I just ordered a gross of blades from it and they shipped fast and kept the pricing the same. I have used Olsen in the past, I just preer the FD myself. TripleJScroller
I've used both Olsen and Flying Dutchman blades and you can't go wrong with either of them. That being said I prefer the FD and also order them from Mikesworkshop.com. I ordered a gross last Tuesday and had them on Friday so I'd say the new owners are doing a good job upholding Mike's great service. Larry A. Blakely
I have a Craftsman 16" too. I replaced the Allen screw in the upper blade holder with a threaded knob and blade changes are much faster now. I'm also more able to lock them in a parallel position. I, too, use Olson blades with good success.
