Hi just joined the forum as I really want to get into scroll sawing having had a look at some of the work here all I can say is WoW.  Unfortuantly I have been forced into early retirement at the ripe old age of 53 beacause of degenerating back condition I worked as an Ambulance driver for 21 years and I am time served Joiner but I can no longer do the heavy lifting of sheets etc So I had been looking for a new hobby and scroll sawing seems to be a nice relaxing way to still be involved with woodwork without all the heavy work.

Thanks Jim

Hello Jim, come away in and enjoy yourself. Nice to see another Scottish ex woodworker. I'm Roy from Kilmarnock . A BIG WELCOME to the forum. Any help you need is here in abundance, just ask. No daft questions here except the ones you don't ask. Remember scrolling is not a hobby it's an incurable addiction. So have some fun and keep looking in, you'll find something interesting every day. Need a pattern?, well you will be spoiled for choice. Just have a look in the pattern library and you'll find more patterns than you can shake a stick at. If you need something special, ask and our family of pattern makers will amaze you with their dexterity. Keep on scrolling Jim.

Rob Roy.

Jim,

I love how we have people from all over the world, coming to The Village for the first time. You mentioned that you think scrolling would be a nice, relaxing woodworking thing to get into. Well you got that right. First of all you need to get  yourself a scroll saw, if you do not already have one. if not I would suggest that you buy one that will take pin-less blades and has a variable speed abilities.  Because you are in Scotland and I am in the  USA I do not know what saws are available to you there, but then your neighbor, Rob Roy should be able to help you in this category. Next comes the blade selection, again turn to Rob Roy if you wish to get an expert opinion on that and where to buy the right blades. i would advise that you select the easy looking paterns to start with and with a little practice you will soon learn that you too can cut the ones that look a little difficult now. Jumping into the ones that look hard is probably a mistake and will most likely spell disaster at the beginning. Remember even the world renown artists had to practice and learn from trial and error before they were able to achieve perfection.. same with scrolling. most important advice I can give you is to log on her often and let us get to know you better. Only a couple of us bite, but luckily for you, I don't have my teeth in right now.
