wombatie Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 I was speaking to my cousin on Skype last night and she told me that Courtney her granddaughter has decided that she is taking a gap year and coming to stay with us so that she can learn more about my scroll saws, which is really great news, only thing is she is only 12. Guess that gives us 6 years to plan her visit.   Marg Scrolling Steve, Phantom Scroller and bobscroll 3 Quote
spirithorse Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Hi, Marg, I had never even heard of a gap year so I looked it up. The article I read said gap years are just recently beginning to show a larger percentage of American students doing this. I hope your cousins grand-daughter doesn't change her mind and you get to have that visit! LOLGod Bless! Spirithorse Quote

LarryEA Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 "Gap Year" is stupid. If it's what I think, like take a break time. Big recess? Kick up your feet and relax because you'll feel better in a year...NOT. Will she get credits for scroll sawing? Quote
ike Posted May 22, 2015 Report Posted May 22, 2015 Gap year . take it it's just a short peroid of time in a life time.If you take a year off in your schooling big deal so you graduate a year later.. BIG DEAL Quote
wombatie Posted May 23, 2015 Author Report Posted May 23, 2015 She is very interested in the outdoors, wood and creating things with wood. Whatever she does I know for a fact it will be outdoors. I do hope she gets here it will be fantastic to see her again. Marg Quote
courdorygirl Posted May 23, 2015 Report Posted May 23, 2015 Usually, if you have a scholarship waiting you cannot take a gap year, you have to go straight to college (like I did.) The reason the state does this is because something like 85 per cent of traditional freshmen (straight out of high school) get burnt out and drop out their first year of college. (I did this, my grades weren't high enough to keep my scholarship anyway.) So, I took a gap year. I moved, got my very first full time job, made some friends, met my then-boyfriend now-husband. Gap years aren't a bad thing. It actually took me a long time to finally get my degree because I couldn't decide what I wanted to do, I had to make As to replace the Ds and Fs, and I only returned to college part-time. I don't believe in having regrets, but I suspect if I'd taken the gap year first and found out what the workplace was like without an education, I would have done a lot better from the start. wombatie 1 Quote
