Ctutor
There has to be a way to do this. It is driving me "nutier" than usual. I have a pattern scanned. I need to resize it to 125%. can't figure it out. I thought changing it to tif might be the answer. Oh the thing that is messing it up is that I need to select a portion of the image and THAT portion is what needs to be resized to 125%. Tried paint, inkscape and gymp all with the same result. Help. koehler788
Ctutor one easy way to do it is scan it on the copier at the percentage you need it uses more paper. but at least now you have two patterns
jerry1939
I live close to 3 copy machines. 10 cents per copy. NOTE: If you are working on one project, ALWAYS use the same copy machine, as each one could be slightly different. Also, I snip off a little corner of the original to mark it. Otherwise, later on, you end up making copies of copies. jerry

tvman44
If you wanted to resize the whole pattern you could do it with Inkscape. I do it everyday. Edited May 30, 2015 by tvman44

I have used Resizer but want to do it my self. TVmann44 how do you use Inkscape to resize? bonacker
I bought Rapid Resizer. Best software I have for scrolling.
tvman44
1st select the pattern in Inkscape, then select Path, trace bitmap, then lock the proportions and move the bit map from the original pattern, select the size you want. On one of the forum & I think it is this one Travis has about 7 videos of lessons on Inkscape, very well done and very helpful. That is where I learned what I know about Inkscape. OCtoolguy
I'm not sure this will work as I have not tried it myself. But if you are running Windows 7 at the bottom of the screen there is a little "snip-it" tool that you can capture only a portion of the picture you want and save it. Then do your resizing of only that part on your print/scanner. I can't see why it wouldn't work. Ray Birchbark

Travis
I'm a little late to the game, but I have a tutorial on how to move elements in GIMP. It's the same method, but you can also scale items. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/articles.html/_/pattern-making/gimp/moving-elements-using-gimp-r18 Let me know if you're still having trouble. Ctutor
thanks Travis. I had followed the tutorial in the past but for some reason it was stuck in my mind that was for portraits only . Duh! I finally resorted to Paint shop and croped the image then printed it at 125%. Simple but I guess I wanted it to be difficult. I guess I was trying to use one of the freebies to do the job and became frustrated. Oh well. thanks. Darryl Jim Finn
don in brooklin on
I resize using Adobe Reader X. My scanner lets me scan to PDF but if not I use Inkscape like above or I have Nitro PDF printer (free). Lets me select the PDF creator. In Adobe there is an option for posterize that will print the PDF on multiple pages if required with crop marks etc. Don

courdorygirl
On my PC, once I'm done editing my favorite way of choosing my print size is through the print option in Windows photo viewer. For scaling, I either use Photoshop (not free) or Adobe Reader (free and included with most systems)
Robert H. Bigart
Plus it FREE. Bob
bonacker
Rapid Resizer allows you to resize any pattern or any portion of a pattern you want. As a scroller, I've always said that it's the most useful software I have. I cannot be without it.
