Kris Martinson
Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like they are cheating if you don't create your own pattern for your projects? I have all the respect in the world for anyone who scrolls, whether they use their own pattern or not. It's just that I really need to use a pattern that I create in order to get the satisfaction from completing a project. I must be a little more weird than I always suspected. Scrappile
I get that feeling, but I am not good a pattern making. I have tried several, but not proud of any of them. To me it takes a different talent to make a pattern than it does to scroll a pattern. Maybe I don't have the pattern talent. I'll keep trying but will not let it keep me from scrolling. Fish
I agree, but it's fun doing other patterns made by other people and seeing others cut patterns you personally did. Kris Martinson, WayneMahler, oneleggimp and 1 other
kywoodmaster
I envy you guys that can do patterns. I would love to do some but I can't draw a streight line with a ruler. amazingkevin, Scrolling Steve, oneleggimp and 1 other
Gordster
I really like when I do a project where I did the pattern and the scrolling. You kind of stand back and say wow I made that. On the other hand if I see a pattern I like,I scroll it and still enjoy the project the same. Kris Martinson and amazingkevin
Scrolling Steve
I'm like Paul, I am not a pattern maker or designer(yet) and while I am working on it I love scrolling the work of others.........So Kris and you other pattern people keep it up...and don"t forget to share your talents! Robert H. Bigart
I have projects that are unfinished scrolling in a box but none that I created my self,There must be a reason. Bob amazingkevin
RangerJay
Pattern-makers are in the business of making patterns for the rest of us - and the good ones are really great at it - far better than I ever will be. I love doing those detailed projects with patterns done by the really great pattern-makers. These projects - when well done - get a lot of oohs and aahs - they give me many kudos and a lot of personal satisfaction - so it becomes important to give credit where credit is due and that the pattern-maker gets fully recognized and acknowledged for their work and their skill. GrampaJim
I look at pattern makers as artists. The really good ones (Steve Good, Sheila Landry, and Sue May, etc ) are so well done I can't match theirs. Craftsman use other peoples patterns which is just fine. It's where we all started and if I stay in that place, I am more than OK. Jim oneleggimp, Kris Martinson, amazingkevin and 1 other
Phantom Scroller
Well patterns can be made by anyone with a bit of software and a bit of patience, if you can learn to scroll you can learn to pattern make, never say never you can do anything if you put your mind to it and perhaps a bit of tuition help from this forum and YouTube. I have seen and remember people start on here and before you know it they're knocking them out professionally. It's just great to see IE: Mahendra is one and Bobscroll and a few more not mentioned man they're good now. Keep on scrollin' and pattern making my friends. WayneMahler
I have designed and cut my own work. As well as cut tons of patterns made from other sources, I do admit that the feeling when done is much greater when it is all you. But I also look at it as why re-invent the wheel. I guess when you advertise as custom orders gladly accepted, you never know what you are going to get into and some offer a great challange for you to learn and grow. Thanks for starting this thread, interesting reading. Kris Martinson, amazingkevin and danny
heppnerguy
i give pattern making a shot every now and then. My biggest problem is that I just do not have the imagination for pattern making. I have come to realize that everything can be a pattern but it still does not help as when I see a new pattern I just say to myself, "why did I not see that as a possible pattern?" Glad that some have that talent here and are so generous with them. Dick heppnerguy amazingkevin and Kris Martinson

Multifasited
In my mind ,the pattern is useless if you cannot cut it,after you learn to cut and control your cutting ,Ideas are easier to relate and experience will lead you to the area of your best abilities, the natural progression, there are a lot of saws out there sitting idle before the bug bites again . Not to worry,if the real interest is there,at your will, & go at your own speed, as far as you really want ,as your time and situation permits ,The key is to enjoy the hobby ,be as good as you can at what you are presently able !The rest is a work in progress ! wombatie
I used to make patterns but the program I used is obsolete now, ( I still have it on my husbands computer ) no upgrades etc., but I do give a photo a go every now and again, its just that the quality of the photos are a lot better now a days, so I just ask nicely and the real experts help me out, I'm fine with that. heppnerguy
I appreciate all the encouragement here. I can make patterns, pretty well. IF I can just imagine that something would make a good pattern.. That is the part that stumps me..who knows, like a couple of you have said here, the moment just might come to me and then we will see what happens. I do and blame it on having a senior moment . Seriously everyone has a different view pf things. Maybe that why we all work together so well. heppnerguy
