Young_Scroller
Hi everyone, this is my most recent pattern I have done, I was not able to upload the actual picture but this is the pattern I used. I know it is not the most impressive thing in the world but I have only been scrolling for about 5 months. I cut it out of 1/2 inch aspen and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what kind of finish to use. I was planning on making a platform behind it for a candle to sit on. LarryEA
Very nice, good cutting, nice background. I like it. I use spray laquer but there are many others that work well also. You should get other replies but the best results come from patience.
rjR
I would try a couple of different finishes on some scraps and see what you like best! Too nice to accidentally ruin with the wrong finish! I do think it looks good. I use spray polyurethane on a lot of things, but, others have different ideas and different ways--- DO what seems right for you after a few tests--- on scraps! We do want to see the "final" also!
Scrolling Steve
That is good work, Joe!....Nice cutting....Are you sure you are a young Scroller!
heppnerguy
Joel. I too made this pattern. It is a nice Steve Good pattern that cuts to a nice end result as you demonstrate here. there certainly is nothing wrong with it at all. I still enjoy the one I made. The secret to successful scrolling is to not get into a pattern that is way above your abilities but push your envelope when you find that the patterns you are cutting are easy for you to do. That is my take on scrolling, anyway Dick heppnerguy

WayneMahler
Beautiful work on that. One of my most favorite subjects. I use a lot of differnt finishes on my work. Spray poly, spray laquer, tung oil and so on. Try out on test pieces then compare them side by side. If your going to put a real candle behind it, allow enough space for safety and the heat. Keep us posted on what you chose and a finished photo please.
wombatie
What ever finish you decide upon, try on a scrap piece of wood first then if you mess up you haven't made your cutting into a really nice piece of designer firewood. Kepy
Very nice work. I'm not enthused about finishing so mine usually just gets a dash of spray laquer.
DWSUDEKUM
Excellently done. That my friend came out great. Thanks for sharing this with us. DW
Kris Martinson
Joe, this is really nice work. I have always used Deft Semi-gloss Clear Wood Finish (brush on), and I am very pleased with the results. Stain is a matter of personal preference. Be sure you test some colors on a scrap piece of the same wood. Different woods take on stain differently. heppnerguy
