GrampaJim
I have had this magnifier light (one of those round fluorescent ones) for a couple of years (hey its an age thing with the eyes) and used it for other things until I started scrolling last year. Then I bolted it to my scroll saw bench and all was good. Lately, the patterns were getting harder to see. had to keep moving the light around. I thought the light must be dusty. Checked it nope - it must be my eyes. yesterday I looked again. No dust, just a worn out light bulb. Duh!! Picked up a new one today and wow. Huge difference. And that is my Homer moment for today. Scrappile
I have a fluorescent, used it for some time. I was have problems with headaches. So I recently bought a LED one with glass lenses versa plastic lenses. No more headaches. I cannot say for sure the fluorscent light caused the headaches but I do like the newer light better. oneleggimp
Kris Martinson
G.Jim...as a former dentist, I got used to using magnifying loupes for intricate work. I rely on them as I'm scrolling now. Lighting is also VERY important as you have learned. Good post. "Doh!" oneleggimp and amazingkevin

Glad it was nothing but a bulb. I too have to use a magnifier. My lights however are numerous and very bright LEDs. They are more expensive than the incandescent ones but they have several advantages, they are brighter, they run cooler ( no more burning your hand ) and they last longer ( much longer ). For me I have begining cataracs however not bad enough yet to operate on. I shudder at the though of something sharp near my eyes hehe. Kepy
I don't particularly like the magnifier as have trouble getting the focus right. Have been using a pair of strong reading glasses from the pharmacy that work pretty good. Have seen some glasses advertised that have an adjustable strength that I may have to try. Kepy
ps DW don't sweat the cataract surgery as it is not too difficult and you won't believe the difference. I couldn't believe how bright that colors became after the surgery.

DW I'm with you DW, I also having the early stage of cataracts and I hate anyone doing anything to my eyes. I pull away so bad that I hope they have a stop bar on the chair / bed to stop me from getting away. Still a long way off yet though before I start to panic. Marg I had cataracts on both eyes fixed about 4 years ago. The procedure was a breeze. The two weeks between the surgeries (they cant do both at the same time) was tough - one eye good one not so much. After that wow! Best thing I ever did (well almost). It is not that bad and you will be happy with the change. wombatie
bobscroll
We changed all our lights in the house to the older type as the compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) one's were making it hard to see colours, And gave us headaches, The house is brighter now!
