Kris Martinson
I started cutting a new project today, the Peanuts comic strip gang. Will I be allowed to post a picture of the cutting or does that violate some copyright rule?
DWSUDEKUM
Copyright issues are confusing and complex. Generally speaking most companies will over look minor copyright infringement and allow reasonable use of their item. This is generally true as long as it is for YOUR use and you do not claim rights to it, try to sell derivative works from it or other wise use it to make a profit. There is a section in the copyright law that discusses how much change to the original must be done before it becomes a new item and that is something over 15%. I do not see where posting a picture of what you make would violate that as long as you do not claim the pattern, subject and have only done it for yourself. LarryEA
There are about a 1/2 doz posts in General Scroll Sawing on this. Might be worth reading some of them. In General Scroll Sawing, upper right, do a search for Copyright heppnerguy and Kris Martinson

Kris Martinson
Kevin, you were absolutely right. I got my answer exactly where you said. Thanks. Sadly, I won't be posting the Peanuts project.....but I want to.
Travis
You can make an item for yourself, but you cannot sell or distribute it. On SSV, you can post a picture of the finished cutting, but please don't post the pattern. Hope this helps. heppnerguy
Copyrights are a little difficult to understand and if you make, say a Disney character and you are proud of how well you did with it, it is difficult to have your post deleted by our family leader here but I thank Travis for the work he does here and the protection he is assuring us of even without our full understanding. Thank you Travis for doing all the extra work that a lot of us do not even know we need. Dick heppnerguy Travis
