A friend of my daughters lives in Launceston Tasmania and he found out about my little hobby so sent me all of this wood.  Its Huon Pine a native of Tasmania.  I sent him a message to say thank you and he said that if I want any more just to let him know.  Gee my daughter's got some great friends.

On the kitchen counter? You must really appreciate that a lot! Most woman would hit you with a rolling pin if you brought that junk in their kitchen, let alone set in on the counter! Terry approved ? Well now you have your wheels turning for projects.Any hints as to what you might make with the trunk chunk of wood?hint hint!

Marg that is a wonderful surprise!...How do you cut it to usable size?...Band saw?

Yes Steve we have a band saw.  But I will leave the cutting part to Terry.

I'm not sure what I will be cutting yet.  I gave the counter a really good clean when I had put the wood into the garage, didn't want to get into trouble if he got splinters in his sandwich.

You are very lucky Huon pine is a beautiful timber & not that easy to get anymore I hear ,was used a lot for boat building in the past

When we were in Tassie we went to Straun ( Sorry can't remember how to spell it)  and they have a wood tuning shop / workshop there and they had loads of Huon Pine.  Its a nice soft wood.
