Paul hd
Hi All. Bobscroll made this up for me. 👠I've cut the pattern on 1 inch Oak. This has been the thickest material that I have cut to date. The saw pattern is one of Steve goods. I made a slight change, I didn't use the extra cut handle parts as I thought that would make the handle look too thick. I would of preferred to cut it out on thinner wood but this is what my mate wanted. 😀 Just a bit of sanding to be done. I found all the letters😄 So the two guys that these are for very kindly collected some wood for me to use. I asked them what they would like me to scroll for them and they said they would like there company name scrolled on a bit of the wood. So I thought for a bit of fun it would be good to do it on a shape that had something to do with their job. Thanks to Bobscroll this was the outcome. rjR
Neat job on both! Anyone who has cut even 1/2 inch oak knows that it tests saw and operator!

bobscroll
Top of the class Paul! You did very well cutting that thickness of Oak, What blade did you use?...It left a good finish! Thank you for showing your scrolling skill's, Bob
Paul hd
Thanks Steve👠Cheers Bob. I used a No 7 reversed tooth Olson. I did start with a No5 but it looked like the blade was wanting to bend off line. I got the feeling I wanted to use maybe a No 9 but I don't have one of those in reverse tooth. I would be interested in yours and others thoughts on what size and type of blade you would use on 1 inch oak.

Regards Paul Definitely a #7 to a #12 cutting the teeth in scroll reverse,The letters maybe a #9 but turns will be hard. You can put a CNC machine to shame will the skills you possess!Keep your work coming in ,it makes my day seeing it! :) :) :) :)
Paul hd
Thanks DW. 👠Hi Kevin. I agree with you, the 9 could be a little too much on a couple of areas of the letters. I have a 9 in a normal blade and it is fairly thick. I could of used that on the straight run but it does rip the underside a little. So I carried on with the 7 reversed tooth. I think I will get a couple of high number reverse tooth blades because I've still got a couple of foot of the oak. 😀 Thank you for your comments mate. merlin
Paul that oak is it recycled furniture ie: headboards, cabinets, dressers and such. I have a theory but will explain later if what I'm thinking is correct. ***Merlin*** Ps: nice cutting by the way.

Paul hd
Roly, Dick, Gordie and Merlin. Many thanks for the comments @Merlin. I think the piece of Oak is left over from a kitchen installation All the best Paul
merlin
That threw my idea out the window, Was trying to see the difference to usa oak. Cause I have been cutting bit of oak lately and I find it quite nice to cut. Because of the large oak species around the world I have never found out what species the furniture that came from England in the 1800's to NZ is/was. Oh well I might live long enough to find out one day. ***Merlin***

kywoodmaster
Excelent work on all the projects. I would sugest trying the Olson PGT seried of blade on thich oak projects. They always seem to do a better job and last 3 time as long as a regular blade. Paul hd
WayneMahler
Paul Great job abd cutting. I think the No 7 reverse did a great job with you in control. 1 inch OAK is pretty tough to cut. With some of the turns and tight spaces I would be concerned about buring with a bigger blade like a number 9. Hats off to a great job. I'm sure they will be well received and greatly appreciated. Paul hd
Paul hd
Wonderful work, very well done. Thanks Frank These are so nice. Clean cuts and I bet 1 Oakes a bugger to cutThanks Gator. It is a nice feeling when you go back to 9mm ply. 😄 That looks great. Love the 1 inch oak, that really stands out. Thanks for showing them to us. jim penquin Cheers Jim. Yes the Oak is beautiful. I cut one of the pen holder patterns yesterday and that looks nice. Awesome cutting!! Admire the precision on the saw teeth, well done!Hi LarB. I used a different process for cutting the teeth on this one compared to my first saw pattern. Instead of doing the regular scroll saw cut of cutting a zigzag, I cut a straight line that touced the tip of each tooth and then did all the cuts one way and then the other. Ended up with lots of little triangles and sharp looking teeth. I suppose that's the way everyone does it, but I'm a slow learner. 😀😋 Those really came out great, way to go!Thanks Fish. 👠Clean crisp and spot on. The fellows that they are for will be blown away by their gifts. Marg Thanks Marg. I will be meeting up with them on Monday. I'm looking forward to the handing over ceremony. 😜😀 Excelent work on all the projects. I would sugest trying the Olson PGT seried of blade on thich oak projects. LarB
Hi Paul, thanks for the tip :-) I must be a slower learner because I really need to practise my teeth!! Keep up the great work and love the pen holder. Super stuff!! Paul hd
