payneintheashww Posted July 6, 2015 Report Posted July 6, 2015 Hey guys just a quick question, just wondering if anyone has a suggestion on a blade to cut 2 inch thick hdpe. I would like to possibly make puzzle or jewelry boxes out of this material. If your not familiar with this its just laundry detergent bottles I melt down and put into a form. This material can be cut and sanded with woodworking tools. I have tried a #9 FD-UR to no avail, what are your suggestions maybe a polar blade.Attaching pics of a rough block. Quote
heppnerguy Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 2 inch is more than max for most scroll saws, I believe... I bet Kevin would know the answer to this, He has cut about every material on the planet. Hummm I wonder ifhe has ever cut dried buffalo dung....yeh, probably Dick heppnerguy WayneMahler 1 Quote
LarryEA Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 High density polyethylene ... had to look it up. That's a great idea. I use a #5 to cut 2" wood. Quote
WayneMahler Posted July 7, 2015 Report Posted July 7, 2015 Personally I would use my band saw with a 3 - 4 tooth resaw blade. I use this for jigs for my table saw as runners and it lasts quite a long time. You can also use it for very thin runners on the bottoms of drawers using a table saw and the proper jig. I think the thinest I have ever sliced was just under 1/16 of an inch. If someone is using this for scrolling I would be delighted to know about it. Quote

I'mgoing to go with Wayne on this .A table saw is not the best thing for plastics that i tryed 2" solid thick.A band saw keeps the blade cleaner while cutting and does a good job of making a cool none melt together job cutting plastics. :) :) :) WayneMahler 1 Quote
