heppnerguy
I stated a couple of days ago that I was working on a wedding box, a friend of mine requested, and that it was different, in as much as she had me use the intersecting word pattern for the names on the box.. I thought that was a rather interesting request and I have to admit that I would never have given that idea even a thought, on my own.. I am pleased with the way it turned out, especially when I do not enjoy making boxes very much.. Hope you people kind of like it too.Oh I used a Sheila Landry pattern as a guide for this one Dick heppnerguy neptun, keefie, LarB and 6 others

Lucky2
Dick, the box looks fantastic, but, I do have a small problem with the finish. When viewing it from your pics, I can see where the finish is only so deep. It would have been better to either pour the finish over the top and sides, or, to completely submerse the pieces in the finish. That way the finish can fill all of the cuts, instead of only penetrating so deep leaving unfinished wood in the cut-out sections. For cuts like this and fretwork also, I have a cookie sheet that I use for finishing projects. I lay the pieces down flat and pour the poly finish over them, the finish is thinned 3-1 this allows it to better penetrate any and all voids. Plus, it makes it easier to filter the finish, to pour it back into the bottle I keep it in. To keep the finish clean, I use the same type of filters that they use for automotive paints. They're cheap and they do a fantastic job. Another option would be to spray the finish on, that should get the finish in to the areas that I can see bare wood. I have a few questions and I am hoping you will help me with them. I do appreciate your comments as I think in the long run I may be able to get the help on finishing that I need and struggle with. I find your comments very constructive and do not feel anything but a willingness to share some advice with me. Lucky2
lolol, Dick, I got your PM, but, I'm not to sure your going to like my reply. It is long as there was a lot of questions, plus I had to add a few details of how to. I hope you understand it as I explained what I do. If you have any more questions, please ask, I don't mind answering them. Good luck, I hope this all works out for you, it's the way I finish most portraits and other fretwork pieces I do.
