Favorite Wood

I know this question has been ask before but I haven't seen it. What is everyone's favorite wood to scroll in? I guess I would have to say mine would be aromatic eastern red cedar.

ANY FREE WOOD. But I guess which one i would rather hae is Walnut.

Most of my projects are cut from Baltic Birch, Poplar and pine......I really need to branch out and try some different woods!

99% of my projects are soft maple or basswood inlaid into eastern red cedar.  Buyers love the smell of the unfinished cedar on the inside of the boxes.

I enjoy cutting cedar as well but also like red oak and cherry.

Well I don't have a lot of experiance with different types of woods, one of these day's I'm going to get around to trying out some of the more interesting woods.  For now I cut a lot of Red Oak and of course Baltic Birch ply.

Excluding BB, I would say Cherry and Maple, because that is what I have the  most experience with.  Popular is not bad, but a little soft.

My favorite wood is Mahogany. It cuts so nice, smells good when scrolling and finishes so beautifully .

Aside from BB ply. I use a lot of red oak, pine, cherry and Maple. Of those I would say it would be a toss up between cherry and red oak.

I really like oak and walnut. I've used maple, cherry ash Pine hickory and poplar. I have never used cedar but need I need to try it.

Oak is what I use the most.  Walnut and Cherry sometimes.  I like Oak ply for the way it finishes more tha Baltic Birch.

I really like the way cherry cuts, and i love cutting butternut as well.

 I prefer the hardwoods to the soft woods, although I do use cedar a lot, but because I get it free. I also use a lot BB ply do to the size and cost and availability. but anything in the hard woods is best to cut for me because the cut with a better finish inside the cuts and they don't create so many fuzzies, ( that I do not enjoy trying to remove ). My preference has to be Alder because I have a wonderful free availability to.

It would seem currently I have been using pine and poplar. Easy to get for me in the sizes I need. I will be getting a planner soon so I will have more choices since thickness will not matter.

I havre done cedar and love the way it cuts. But I don't get a lot of it for scrolling. It's easy to work and left unfinished has a great effect for hope chests, Takes a finish well for scrolling but doesn't hold it's luster in the sun. Maybe I am doing something wrong?

I like free! Alder, Balsm,Douglas Fir,Maple, White Oak, Western Red Cedar, Yellow Cedar
