A question about mixing boiled linseed oil

Hi I read somewhere that you can mix boiled linseed oil with mineral spirit or white spirit as it is called over here, has anyone tried this? And is it better than just using blo on its own?

I mix it about 50/50.  I fell it does two things.  One. it make is thinner than straight BLO and it soaks into the wood better.  Two, it dries quicker than straight BLO.  That's my take on it.

I have also done it a couple of times 50/50 and found the same results previously mentioned.  I like the color it gives the wood.

Same here with 50/50 or close to it.  Easier to work and seems to be ready quicker.

All of the above plus it Is more economical as you will have twice the amount of oil for a lot less.

I keep my mix in a couple of quart size glass mason jars. I pour the oil mix into an old metal baking pan to soak my projects.

When done, I pour the oil back into the glass jars.

Pour a little mineral spirits into the pan to clean it out.

I fill a five gallon bucket of sawdust from my dust collector to dump the used mineral spirits. When that's full, I dump it into a large trash bag and through it into the trash.

Dan great idea about jar and tray but I must admit I chuckled as I had a vision of you dump truck spontaneous combusting as he travels down the road.lol Roly
