Here are photos of my current best selling boxes.   They measure 7" x 9" x 2" deep.  I made a wooden pistol to show that a nine millimeter handgun will fit into this box. Woods are cedar, maple and walnut.  Finished with lacquer. The only inlay is the star.  I cut the curved line between the maple and cedar by stacking the two woods and cut them together at the same time.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

I am working on making four of the wavy flag ones but a little larger so that a pistol will fit in it.

I have a pistol near my front door in a box but it is a very small pistol (.380)

The more popular nine mm. requires a larger box.

Jim, the boxes look fantastic, and you cuts were right on and matched up so well. Do you think a felt or a velvet liner would help sell them quicker, people like to protect their guns from scratches.

I have tried flocking the interior of boxes but the selling feature of my boxes seems to be the inlaid image and the cedar smell.  That cedar smell is 100% lost after flocking.  I found that flocking does not increase sales so I no longer do it except on a special order.

I'd be amazed knowing how many boxes you've done. You be overwhelmed knowing that too.I'm sure you could do one blind folded by now ,lol.Boxes are my worst.Your the top boxer around these parts! ;) ;) ;)

Let me think....I started selling toys and trunks in 2007.  2008, I started making small boxes.  Started out slowly selling them for $5 each at first. Very small boxes.  5" x5" or so.  Next year, 2009, I started making larger and more boxes.  By 2010 I was selling about 200 boxes a year.  I have sold 300 per year the last few years so I guess the number is approaching 2000 total.

<Newguy>.....  I have assembled 28 photos documenting how I now make boxes.  I plan to post them in the tutorial forum here on scroll saw village.

They are brilliant.  I can understand why they are your best seller at the moment.  If I had one I would use it for jewelery though, maybe for my watches.
