DWSUDEKUM
This bowl is 7 1/2 inches long x 6 inches wide x 3 inches tall. It was cut from 3/4 sapelle I cut 1/4 inch wide strips of 3/4 holly for this bowl as well. The bowl was cut using a 26.9 deg. left side down table tilt. Cut with a #9 ultra reverse. Finished with shellac. DW Scrolling Steve, neptun, Lucky2 and 3 others

crupiea
Man thats some great work Now you did that on your scroll saw with strips of wood? Not a lathe? Please let us in in the details as I am very interested. Seen these before but never realized they were scrolled items.

DWSUDEKUM
Man thats some great work Now you did that on your scroll saw with strips of wood? Not a lathe? Please let us in in the details as I am very interested. Seen these before but never realized they were scrolled items. Tony these bowls are pretty easy to do. It takes just a little attention to detail ( the small things get you on one of these ) There is a book that was published a couple of years back by Fox Chapel Publishing called Wooden Bowls From the Scroll Saw by Carole Rothman. Here is a link to it on Amazon - http://www.amazon.com/Wooden-Bowls-Scroll-Easy---Make/dp/1565234332/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440036080&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=wooded+bowls+from+the+scroll+saw The book discusses and has projects to make bowls with the scroll saw that frankly are amazing. I have had folks swear that I used a lathe when I do not even own one. Essentially you cut a ring at an angle then a smaller ring at the same angle and then glue them together, sand and shape and finish... and you get one like I just made. The possibilities for making this type of bowl are endless and can be a lot of fun to design and make. I am ordering one of these books today and this will be the scroll items I will be giving for Christmas presents this year. So perfect timing for me. I have made some bowls myself, but not quite like these. I can't wait to get started.
