Look at the lower right corner of your desktop near the time and date.... is there a small windows icon there someplace? This is an indication that your system has prepped itself for the upgrade and is waiting for you to initiate it.  As for the upgrade, it is not mandatory... yet.  You have a year to decide if you wish to do the upgrade for free or not.  I personally am going to wait a bit until they have issued more bug fixes.

I installed it the first day it was released and haven't had any problems other than trying to figure out how it works and where everything is with it. The one thing you need to know about it is that if you do install it, you will have to reset your settings as it will be like purchasing a new computer. I didn't know that at first and yes I was cussing but once I figured it out, I love it. Seems it's a little like windows 7 and 8 all in one. Seems they took the good things from both and made one.

I have it and took advice and didn't do the express install as that feeds a lot of into to Microsoft.  Going the other way allows you to say what you want.  I use gmail and it didn't show up on the main page but finally stumbled onto a place to download the app (I think) to get it back so is now working fine.

Here's the link to force download windows 10 if you can't wait  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-10/media-creation-tool-install

I've downloaded on three laptops now and I have to say with shock in my heart I'm impressed with it as I really expected loads of issues and updates to find it was quite painless. Of course anyone with not hardrive space, no ram memory, virus ridden computers my have a different answer. BEST OF LUCK!  Roly

Upgraded from Windows 8, New Edge browser is a little flakey, but IE 11 is still available, and I use Chrome so that was totally unaffected.  The upgrade process for me was without issue.

I joined a very long time ago, but didn't initially spend enough time here to realize how vibrant a community it is.  I'm not giving up on the scrollsawer.com community and am actually putting a lot of effort into helping to resolve their issues.  But the experience over here has it's own unique charm and many new/different people to meet and enjoy.  I'm very impressed overall and can't believe I didn't see this community for what it was on my first pass.  As far as forum loyalty, no one said we could just have one :-)

As far as coins, I don't want to wear the folks here out, but here is a new and recent bronze Greek coin just a little smaller than a half dollar:

Only bad thing, detail is so fine, it is hard to see with the naked eye without holding it up to a light source, which makes is a little impractical to wear.  To tie this in to the main topic here, notice the picture was taken in front of "Windows 10" :-)

  • 4 weeks later...

I installed windows 10 last week.

Took a bit if time but thats ok.

Booted up to a black screen.  nothing on it.

had to use my other computer to get into windows.

Once in, it was very sluggish, wouldnt print to my new printer or recognize my network card.

I rebooted thinking maybe it just needed to settle in a bit.

black screen, had to use my fancy work around to gain access.

Same story. didnt perform.

reverted to windows 7.  figured when this dies, i will get a fresh factory installed copy and go from there.

Not like I am not used to computers as I do network support for a living.

I really like Win 10.  I switched to Edge. It is fast but lacks a few features.

I installed on 3 laptops.  2 had win 8.1 and one was win 7.

No problems and I can network the 3 together with out an issue.  I could never get the win 7 to see the other 2.

The only issue was it would not recognize the DVD driver so all I did was delete the driver and reboot and it put in correct drive.

Love the new start as I have the sports app at the top and it links real fast to my favorite teams.

I had Media player on 2 of the laptops and it is still there.  I use to sync my Walkmen and it works just like before.  In fact, since my wives laptop (Win 7) it now recognizes my library so she loaded her Walkman with my albums.

Best Microsoft move so far.
